Not just gay. Gay and Republican.
“It probably had something to do with the fact that I support a Republican candidate running against an openly gay man,” Wood said of the attack.
Remember her?
Remember the B Girl from 2008? The girl who said that some black guy beat her up because she had a McCain/Palin bumper sticker? Her name was Ashley Todd and she claimed that the scary black guy marked a B on her face for Obama. Remember that? Remember how she also admitted shortly after that
the whole thing was a hoax and that she had actually done it herself, writing the B on in a mirror and looking like an idiot to the rest of us when we saw a backwards B on her face. Well, this is kind of like that. Now I am not saying this guy beat himself up, but I am saying that every other part of his story sounds like Ashley Todd's story. See for yourself.
U.S. House candidate Chad Lee, who is running for Tammy Baldwin's seat against openly gay state Assemblyman Mark Pocan, has fired GOP campaign worker Kyle Wood, who has recanted his claim of being violently beaten for being gay conservative.
The Lee campaign put out a statement Monday night saying that Wood had been dismissed. "Today, our campaign unfortunately learned that a deeply troubled volunteer misled police, news outlets, and our own team in regards to an attack at his home that apparently never occured," the statement read. "Our campaign dismissed Mr. Wood immediately and we will fully cooperate with the authorities as they continue with their investigation. As the Madison Police Department is investigating this matter, we cannot comment further at this time."
Wood didn't respond to requests for comment Monday but over the weekend he told Schneider, the conservative blogger, that he had received threats and putdowns for being a gay Republican opposing Pocan. “It probably had something to do with the fact that I support a Republican candidate running against an openly gay man,” Wood said of the attack. Wood claimed the attack occured on Wednesday morning when an unidentified man knocked on his door and then brutally attacked him as soon as Wood answered it.

Bold text added by the diarist.
The Police are investigating the matter. Lying to the police is not something police officers like.
Captain Joe Balles, commander of the South District, confirms that Wood recanted his allegations of the beating.
Although he would not go into detail about the case, Balles said, "I updated that press release because I felt it was imperative we get something out there because of the politically charged background this was happening in."
He said that the department will do its "due diligence" and discuss with the district attorney's office whether any charges will be filed against Wood.

More below the fold
As soon as Mr. Wood's story of being beaten by an unidentified man who knocked on his front door emerged a second shoe dropped, this in the from of a series of alleged text messages sent by the Democratic candidate Mark Pokan's husband to Mr. Wood, text posted on conservative website Media Trackers, texts that contained "threats, sexual innuendo and racist language and which were supposedly sent to Wood just days before the alleged attack on him". Those texts are the backwards B on the face of this whole story.
Pocan and his husband are reportedly considering suing Wood for the allegedly faked text messages given to the police. The right wing site Media Trackers, which printed the messages, has deleted that entry.

“It probably had something to do with the fact that I support a Republican candidate running against an openly gay man,” is what Kyle Wood was saying. What do you do if you are a Republican running for a House district who voted for a gay woman last time and you are now running against a gay man? You make up a story about how liberal gay people are so hateful and violent that they beat up your staffer for being gay and republican, as if gay Republicans walk in fear down the isles at Brooks Brothers in case the other gays find out about their preference for marriage inequality and the Bush Tax Cuts for the Rich. As if gay liberals are known for their sudden outbursts of homophobic violence. As if the real victim here isn't a victim because he is gay, he is a victim because he is a
Republican. And he is a victim of gay hate somehow, because that is a thing if you watch Rush Limbaugh and have never met a gay before in real life.
How fucked up is this?
What kind of upside down line of attack is this? That liberal gays hate gay people, dismiss actually violence against other gays and act against their own interests, unlike GOProud?
Starting to get really ugly out there as we get down to the wire.
Amazing, right? I mean, come on, Republicans actually fired another Republican for lying. I hope it starts a trend.
Peace and love to all
