A week and a half ago I attended an intimate fund raiser for orange-to-blue candidate Sean Patrick Maloney, where he stood up and said that at that time their internal polling showed his race against rabid Tea Party first-term congresswoman Nan Hayworth was a dead heat. Then on Monday, president Bill Clinton was here in NY-18 campaigning for Maloney. As we all know, he can be rather persuasive.
Then, hurricane Sandy hit. Thousands in this district are still without power. That is dredging up memories of the aftermath of Irene, when Hayworth delayed disaster relief funding for her district until it could be "paid for."
Now, apparently Hayworth has gone into panic mode.
An email I just received from the Maloney campaign says that Hayworth has written herself a check for $100,000 to fund a final round of attack ads. She wouldn't be doing that unless her internal polling was flashing red danger signs.
Sean Patrick needs our help to fight back against this last minute slew of attacks. We can win this thing, if we go all in. He needs to raise $15,000 by tomorrow morning to respond. I encourage everyone to dig deep and help this former Clinton White House staffer oust a Tea Party hack. Please donate whatever you can!
