Yesterday, at a Romney event in Packer-obsessed Wisconsin, former Green Bay quarterback Bart Starr did what former Packer stars do far too often: Invoke their former coach's name in an distasteful attempt to add value to whatever cheap product they are selling.
Starr did just that when he read a passage from Vince Lombardi's book and suggested that if his former coach were alive today he would be smitten with Romney.
Mr. Starr, while you and others may be able to get away with invoking Lombardi's name when you're selling wind shield wipers and lawn mowers, you're not going to get away with one: Enough is enough.
You see, according to the most respected Vince Lombardi biographer, David Maraniss, was not only a Democrat, but A STRONG Democrat.
In fact, not only was Lombardi one of Kennedy's biggest and most vocal supporters, he was and even BIGGER supporter of Kennedy's more liberal brother, Bobby, when he ran in 1968.
But it gets even better! According to Maraniss, Lombardi was very close to being on the presidential ticket as the Dems' vice president pick in 1968, but eventually dismissed the idea, saying he was "too much of an idealist."
This is also the same Vince Lombardi that was a progressive leader in integrating not only Blacks into the NFL... but also was well known for his sticking-up for gay players in the NFL!
Yep, sounds like Vince "the idealist" Lombardi would LOVE Romney!
