It was an emotional moment for the asshole governor of New Jersey.
He also got a hug from the rock legend on Friday, at a benefit concert for victims of Superstorm Sandy. He later cried, calling the moment a highlight in a tough week.
“Bruce and I had an opportunity to chat for a while Friday night… we hugged and he told me, ‘it’s official, we’re friends,” Christie said at a news briefing.
Ha ha, officially friends. That's not creepy at all!

But here's the thing, Chris—you do good things and tone done that asshole schtick, and maybe you'll get to do coffee with the Boss. And then maybe you lay off the unions and stop trying to screw over same-sex couples, and then maybe you'll get a dinner. And after a few more good acts, then, maybe then, you can be BFF with Springsteen!

So yeah, along those lines, this is good. Very good.

"I told Governor Romney at that time that if the storm landed as predicted that it was going to be catastrophic to New Jersey and unprecedented," Christie said. "I said to him, 'Listen, Mitt, if this storm hits the way I think it's going to, I'm off the campaign trail from here to Election Day.' And he said to me, 'Chris, of course. Do your job, don't worry about me. I'll take care of things.' So all this other noise, I think, is coming from know-nothing, disgruntled Romney staffers who, you know, don't like the fact that I said nice things about the president of the united states. Well that's too bad for them."
In fairness to those know-nothing disgruntled Romney staffers, there was a right way for a Republican governor to praise the president without giving him electoral aid and comfort. Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell made some generically positive platitudes about Obama, didn't repeat them day after day, didn't give Obama the golden "bipartisan" seal with a joint appearance photo op, didn't refuse campaign appearances during the last few desperate hours of the campaign, and then didn't trash the campaign as "disgruntled".

Then again, McDonnell wasn't willing to sell out his party for a hug with Bruce Springsteen.

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.
