Those of you who've read my work before know that normally I like to write thoughtful essays on the nature of politics, progressivism, genuine conservatism, and tolerance. In the midst of attaining my PhD, there is nothing more I love than the art of the written word. However, the Bible says that there is a time for all things, and that includes gloating. Cue the Republican collapse that occurred only moments after Barack Hussein Obama was declared to have retained the presidency of the United States America. 'Twas like the howling of a thousand chimera in the bellowing caverns of the earth, crying out in one pained cacophony wreaked upon them by the divine light that was Obamamania.
From Twitter:
JUST A THOUGHT...Next time, GOP might want to think about nominating a conservative.
- Laura Ingraham
Right. Maybe we should refresh Laura's memory about what exactly Romney's said over the course of his campaign?
"Corporations are people, my friend ... of course they are. Everything corporations earn ultimately goes to the people. Where do you think it goes? Whose pockets? Whose pockets? People's pockets. Human beings, my friend."
"I'm not concerned about the very poor. We have a safety net there."
"The answer is self-deportation, which is people decide they can do better by going home because they can't find work here because they don't have legal documentation to allow them to work here," he said. "And so we're not going to round people up."
"There are 47 percent of the people who will vote for the president no matter what. All right, there are 47 percent who are with him, who are dependent upon government, who believe that they are victims, who believe the government has a responsibility to care for them, who believe that they are entitled to health care, to food, to housing, to you-name-it -- that that's an entitlement. And the government should give it to them. And they will vote for this president no matter what. ... These are people who pay no income tax. ... My job is not to worry about those people. I'll never convince them they should take personal responsibility and care for their lives."
Really progressive thoughts there, don't you think?
What Obama has sown. MT @TwitchyTeam With 1st postracial prez reelected, 'F**k white people' trends http://bit.ly/...
- Michelle Malkin
Because, of course, this statement might have nothing to do with youth or immaturity. No, Obama is singly responsible for people making bad statements, right? Yeah, and violent movies are the sole reason people act violently.
Our party must do better with young voters & Hispanics. They are BOTH existential threats to our movement. Let THAT be the lesson of 2012.
- Alex Schriver
I mean really, is this the sort of threat that you want to be making after having just lost both groups in massive numbers? Because it doesn't endear anyone to your cause.
We have picked up 2 more seats in the House when all the talking heads said we would lose seats. That's 2 more to help hold Obama in line.
- John Carter
And of course, this completely ignores the fact that the Democrats made gains in the Senate and was never seriously seen as having a chance at retaking the House, if only due to the type of seats coming up for reelection.
And let me just say, Trump had a ton of them:
This election is a total sham and a travesty. We are not a democracy!
Lets fight like hell and stop this great and disgusting injustice! The world is laughing at us.
Our country is now in serious and unprecedented trouble...like never before.
- Donald Trump
Right, Donald. Because we didn't have a Civil War.
But lo! Twitter was not the only font of Devil's Tongue spewing from the recesses of the Republican earth. For there was another, yea, the hellspawned bloggers of Red State, who reassured their followers that the problem was indeed Romney, a chameleon diablo prancing about in the skin of conservatism.
As for the so called “war on women,” there is no war on women and women did not abandon Mitt Romney for Barack Obama because of their love of killing kids in the womb. In fact, if you pull out black female voters, the Democrats and Republicans are tied among women. Are black women voting Democrat because they are women or in a consistent pattern with black voters in general. Blame social conservatives if you must, but (A) you are lying to yourself and (B) if this is a fight you want to have, I’m happy to see you in the primaries in 2014. I like my chances.
- Erick Erickson, http://www.redstate.com/...
The nation did not drift left. It was just unpersuaded Mitt Romney would actually take us right and sure as hell did not know what it would get even if it went with Romney. The next two years will set the vision of a more populist oriented conservatism of which I am excited to play a part. And I think, when the Democrats finally realize the new Democratic coalition is only a Barack Obama coalition, conservatives and the GOP will be ready.
- Erick Erickson, http://www.redstate.com/...
So yes, Republicans. From a Hispanic progressive who grew up in poverty, needed government assistance and is now finishing his PhD program. Take this from a religious and social conservative who still thinks that if I tell other people who they can love or what they can believe, I put myself at risk of being told the same thing at some point in the future. Listen to someone that lives in a city where daily I am surrounded by whites, blacks, Asians, Hispanics, Indians, Hindus, Buddhists, Muslims, Christians, Jews and atheists, and loves every damned minute of it. Believe that I don't want to legislate to anyone who they can marry because, regardless of my personal feelings toward it. I don't want to be responsible for separating loved ones when one is not allowed into a hospital room to see their dying partner just because I might feel uncomfortable with it.
This country is changing. It won't stop for you to tell it we have to go back. This growing diversity isn't going to stop just because you demand we believe the same thing a portion of the population did over 200 years ago, beliefs even held among many of the Founding Fathers.
Either you learn to accept others, or you don't survive. That's all there is to it.
