At the beginning of NBC's coverage last night, around 7pm-ish (ET) or so, they had Ezra Klein on, who made an amazing comment (which increased my internal stress levels about 1000%)
He said that while everybody, every four years, likes to claim that "this year" (whatever year that is) the election is historically important, he thought that it was more true in 2012 than in prior years.
He said that, historically, whichever party happens to be in power when a recession ends, regardless of whether that party had anything to do with the recessions ending or not, ends up staying in power for a decade to come.
Face it -- had Romney won, he and the GOP would get credit for the inevitable improvement in the economy.
But because of yesterday's results -- in 2016 the American public will more fully understand which policies work, and which one's don't.
A crucial election. The good guys won. America won.
