Wingnuttery is a disease with no cure as evidenced by the posts this AM on Red State

Recognizing that all of my usual reading sources would be ecstatic with the results of the election, I thought it would be educational to see what the "loyal opposition" had to say. Simply stated, it is Apocolypse Now Redux.

The fear mongering, racial sub-text, bitterness is overwhelming. Reading these posts is a very depressing, yet illustrative, reason for WHY the republicans lost and the GOP of November 5th is no more. There is no recognition of the fact that the world as they know it has changed nor an understanding of how democracy actually works. - they must have played hooky during their high school civics and history classes. They are mourning a world that hasn't existed other then in their own mind with no recognition of how their ancestors came to this country - as immigrants - and had to lift themselves up. They conveniently forget their history and that the dark days of our country were/are rooted in slavery, an offense against man and the god the so many of them profess allegiance to. They are oblivious to demographics and the fact that the country IS changing and that grumpy old white guys are not going to be what leads us into the future.

Christianity is their refuge, but they conveniently ignore Christ's teachings of inclusion and opt for just the opposite, all the while wrapping themselves in the flag and holding a bible (and a gun) - which they take literally to support their illogical and parochial beliefs. Yes. I am demonstrating intolerance, but it is out of frustration that many of my felllow citizens disregard facts for fiction and allow demogogues like Rove, deMint, King, Trump (and believe everything they hear/see on Fox) and their ilk to lead them because it is easier to accept their rantings as fact then to actually think and understand reality. A reality driven by science, math and common sense and decency. Oh yeah, and the teachings of the man that they supposedly revere above all else.

Hypocrisy is just another word for republicans and I see little chance of that changing in the near term.

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.

  •  Like you, I just peaked at redstate (only my (7+ / 0-)

second visit there).  I read the most astounding thing.  Possibly the only rational mind on the site:

Yes they did. And they said they would. And there was documentation that they had an effective one. AND we trusted Gallop (R+7 last week, yeah right) and Gravis and Ras. But we have been told that those outfits have what pollsters call "house effect" (baked in bias) in our favor. We blew it off because it felt good to believe the good news. And the echo chamber around here makes it difficult for ideas that conflict with the narrative to emerge. There are polling firms that have "house effects" in the other direction, such as PPP.

We ignored a bunch of other shit too. I'm done... but listening to Dick Morris and Dean Chamberlain kinda fucked us.

    Just Sayin'

Sorry for being O/T, but after all I've read about redstate, I didn't think there was ANY self-awareness there.

Part of the problem is the decline of "news" and the rise of "information" on the internet.   Left and right both focus on information sources that validate their beliefs.   That insularity is worse on the right; dissenting views in their forums will result not in reasoned discussions, but accusations of being impure, un-American, and threats of violence.  They've gone from the urbanity of Buckley to the buffoonery of Limbaugh.  Style often IS substance, so they've lost a lot of credibility.  I don't think anyone ever accused Buckley of racism.

    •  From the "Firing Line" to Beck, Limpballs, (0+ / 0-)

Savage, et al., has been a long way down for them.
From "Atlantic High" to Rand, Coulter, Palin, Ryan et al., how low can they go?

You are not being intolerant! Not at all. They are freaking nuts. Period.  I have been over there, even commented until cut off.  They are wicked deluded.

It's amazing, really.  Not much hope for that lot.

  •  I wouldn't bother. We have too much work to (0+ / 0-)

do.  I have found that when you focus on your goals and keep moving ...forward the other guys start to take notice and pretty soon try to keep up.  I am a lifelong Republican and have been called a RINO for the last 4 years.  Tons of former friends (yeah former) have been calling me wondering what happened.  My short answer: turn the channel and join the rest of us in the real world.

  •  I've watched the Tea Party 'Patriots' gathered (0+ / 0-)

beneath the courthouse squares "Hanging Tree"* waving their copies of the US Constitution (hint, the "Sons of the Confederacy" are quite active around here), all orating on 'freedom' and the 'American way', and I've been astounded that they don't have a clue.

Top headline on the county RW ragpaper frontpage a couple weeks ago was a breathless "Xxxx** Rejects UN's Agenda 21".
** being a dusty, long declined village of barely 2000, majority minority to boot (Mex-Amer), but the wingnuts control everything politically.

Red State, Hell, this place is 'Infra-Red State'!
