I sent the following email to the White House this morning.

I think EVERYBODY needs to get with the program and tell the President that we worked our tails off for him, and NOW, WE EXPECT HIM TO DO HIS BIT FOR US.

As regards the "fiscal cliff" (which is really a gentle ramp):

I suggest that President Obama invite Rep. Boehner, Rep. Cantor and Sen. McConnell (each of them is up for re-election in 2014) to the White House and, in the presence of one or more of his own aides, inform them of the following:

They made it a matter of public record that they intended to make him a one term president, and they LOST that effort.  More Democrats were elected to the incoming Senate and House than serve in the present Congress.

If they fail to agree to raising tax rates on those making more than $250,000 per year, the following will take place.

1. we will go over the "fiscal cliff."

2. beginning January 2, 2013, the President will begin a "bully pulpit" campaign in which he will visit each of their districts (multiple times) and will tell the entire American people that the reason why the fiscal cliff was activated was that Republicans would not agree to raising tax rates on those making over $250,000 per year.

They can push for a "their way or the highway" position, or they can compromise.  The American people want them to compromise, in case nobody noticed.

This life-long Democrat voted for the President, Elizabeth Warren, and Joe Kennedy.

I did not do so in the expectation that President Obama would cave into the demands of right-wing Republicans.

Go get them, Mr. President.  We have your back.

It's really simple.

If Presdient Obama hears from many of us that we EXPECT him to face down the Republicans, he might just do so,

If we remain silent, he may well go into his customary "community organizer" (read concilliator) mode, and he will cave in to Republican demands, which have little or no proper basis, given the expressed opinions of the American people.

Say your piece, or be prepared to be disappointed.

The election is OVER.  WE DID IT.  IT IS TIME TO GET THE REWARDS WE ARE ENTITLED TO RECEIVE.

THAT WILL NOT HAPPEN IF WE ARE SILENT.

SPEAK YOUR MIND.

NOW!

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.

IT IS TIME TO GET THE REWARDS WE ARE ENTITLED TO RECEIVE.
You understand nothing. We had a great victory on Tuesday. It put us in a good position to fight for our policies. Fight for our policies btw is not a synonym for extorting the President. It means to show public support for his policies and denounce those of the Republicans (if you can on the sidelines push public opinion to the left of Obama, all the better). If you can't focus on that, your efforts will be worse than useless.

Let us not repeat the 2010 fiasco, please!

    •  Yes, but we also need to be (0+ / 0-)

cognizant of the fact that our "great victory" was 51-49. This is still a divided country, and will always be one. Obama is not the left's president, he is everybody's president, and he seems to know that more than many on both the right and the left. Compromise is coming, and I know that many on the left will hoot and holler that they've been betrayed by Obama. The Democrats are as united as they've ever been, due to the monolithic opposition of today's right wing. But in a period of compromise, if that is where we are headed, we Democrats will have to once again confront our own intra-Party differences, and I think it's going to get a bit ugly.

I post there as Joe From Boston.

This one made it as a NYTimes pick, with several hundred likes.

We need to get the word out as widely as possible.

I want him to lead.  No negotiated position prior to the new Congress.

Let all of the Bush tax cuts expire.  Fuck it.

    Negotiate next year.

The president is considered a weak negotiator.  Time to carry a big stick and beat these republicans like a rented mule.

    No negotiation this year.

When I said "IT IS TIME TO GET THE REWARDS WE ARE ENTITLED TO RECEIVE" I was referring to POLITICAL REWARDS, such as a Congress that does not take the "my way or the highway" approach so that we can make progress while also addressing issues like deficit reduction (which I believe needs to happen GRADUALLY).

Every expert (except those of the far right) on that topic agrees that part of the process is increasing tax revenues.

This is not going to happen unless we put pressure on people to include that in the plan that they agree to.  Senators Harry Reid and Chuck Schumer are already there.

We need to make sure that President Obama is also in agreement, and that he "grows a spine."

By the way, my taxes would likely go up under such an agreement, and I am in favor of that if it will help solve our problems as a society.

I am not trying just to "look out for me."

This life-long Democrat, born 3 weeks after Vietnam ended, also voted for the President, Elizabeth Warren, and Joe Kennedy. Newton, Mass. here.

The compromises with GOP hostage takers in the first term are the main REASON the economy remains sluggish. That's just simple economics. With the President re-elected and the Senate upgraded not just in numbers but in progressivism (Chris Murphy instead of Joe Lieberman, Tammy Baldwin instead of Herb Kohl!!!), the time for that is past. Hold strong.
