This article is a fascinating insight one of the major blunders of the Romney campaign.
We won this election for lots of reason, but GOTV was the biggest one. It looks like the Romney campaign seriously screwed up what was meant to be the centerpiece of their GOTV strategy, a web-based data app to help volunteers identify and get in touch with republican voters who hadn't gotten to the polls yet. Amusingly, the failure is basically one of IT management, and is probably familiar to many folks here. I've seen screw ups like this before, though the scale of the consequences are a bit more serious than anything I've been involved with (thankfully).
It's hard to know how this would've affected the race had it worked as expected, but it should be a reminder to us that superior ideas and message are nothing in comparison to good, competent leadership and smooth execution. I guess there's a lesson there about the desirability of CEO experience in running an organization, too.
