Republicans lost this year and they're whining and crying about how horrible it is to have to live in an America presided over by a closet Muslim foreign born Socialist that spends money like a
Democrat. (gasp!)
As I watch this comedy unravel amongst the conservatives in my life I'm reminded of a lesson I learned many years ago that they can't seem to grasp.
"Just because I disagree with you does NOT mean you are wrong."
It seems to me that conservatives cannot understand this. They are obviously stuck in the narrow mindset that convinces them:
"If I disagree with you, YOU must be wrong"
Think about it. Your conservative friends think you're wrong. Voting for Obama is wrong. Being gay is a choice, and a wrong choice at that. Aborting your fetus is wrong, no amount of justification or explaining or personal freedom can convince them that it's not wrong.
They feel like they own what is "right". For the conservative mind, they are so totally convinced of their own self righteousness, that they want YOU to live YOUR life they way THEY want you to. Because, if you disagree, you must be wrong.
How far from the truth is this conservative mantra?
"I have a job, I make a good living, I wanted all the babies I made, I'm heterosexual."
If you are in need of welfare, think abortion is an option for accidental pregnancy, are gay, or any combination of the above,
You're wrong according to conservative ideology.
And that, is why they cannot appeal to as many people as they wish to. If every single eligible voter made it to the polls I am confident that Republicans would not be elected to any national office. Gerrymandering will get them seats in the House, but the senate would be at least 60-40 and they would never hold the White House until they learn a very simple lesson:
I can disagree with you without making it sound like you are wrong.
