Armando talked about this the other day on his Daily Kos Radio show, The 11 Show, and I think it's a pretty good trade to get some "Stimulus" money where it's needed.  Armando suggested trading extending the Bush Tax Cuts six months in exchange for $60 Billion specifically directed at rebuilding the damage caused by Sandy.

Talk about an Obama win-win!  Think about all that "Free Guvmint Money" from FEMA and other "Stimulus" funds poured into the Northeast Corridor affected by Hurricane Sandy!  Ka-Ching!  A win for the Northeast Corridor, a win for contractors, a win for Cuomo and Christy... and a Big Fat Lose for TeaPubs whining that "that right there is socialism!"  Two words for them, and they ain't Happy Motoring (as Bud would say).

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.

If the Republicans in Congress refuse to pay for the Sandy damage, they are going to lose a whole bunch of votes for their party from the NE, just as Bush and Brownie and friends lost votes after Katrina.

If the Republicans stonewall on tax cuts for the middle class by demanding tax cuts for the wealthy, they are also going to lose votes for their party.

So it looks like a lose-lose situation for them.

Now why is it a good idea to cave on tax cuts for the wealthy? To get something that is inevitable anyway?

That certainly will not be a win-win with progressives. I see diaries around here every day accusing the President of being a traitor to his supporters based entirely on speculation that he will cave on tax cuts for the wealthy. This type of tactic will infuriate a bunch of people who are just looking for an excuse to pile on.

We have already won on the issue of tax cuts for the wealthy. Repubs ae backed into a corner of their own making. You think it would be a good idea to give them an out??

OK. And now we begin the part of the show where we pull out individual words and phrases of the commenter to try to determine the "real" meaning of the comment.... let the games begin.

    •  I don't see it as an "out," nor do I (0+ / 0-)

believe $60 Billion is forthcoming - automatically - for Sandy relief.  Such a petit bargain would guarantee $60 Billion in funding and jump start the rebuild, all for a paltry 6 months of tax cuts.  Not a bad deal!

      •  And, not for nuthin', but if this is (0+ / 0-)

what it takes to get Stimulus Funds to jump start 'The Economy' from sea to shining sea then I'm all for it!  $120 Billion in Stimulus Funds for another 2 year extension of the Bush Tax Cuts??  Done!!  Some guest on Hate Radio back in July or August said that $60 Billion would cover the cost of virtually ALL infrastructure repair projects from sea to shining sea.  $60 Billion gets us new bridges and new sewer systems and new... Pays the entire bill.  So, let's get $120 Billion just in the event he is a bit off on those numbers - and put Americans back to work putting America back together.
TeaPubs ain't going to give us the funds on a silver platter.  Obama's election win did not give him that kind of clout.  The Bush Tax Cuts are a good bargaining chip for us!  The TeaPubs want to keep it??  Give us the Stimulus Funds!
