More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.

Okay, what exactly here is meant as a 'pie fight"?

Last night I had a dream that Curly Joe in a D-21 was racing Moe Howard in a One-Ninety XT up CO HWY L-20. Obviously, this was going to take a while....

no fooling.  I use to be in an informal group of Merry Pranksters.(this was me and 5 women!) One morning, someone got the idea to go off into Golden Gate Park and have a pie fight.
So we went out to the Polo grounds off on the side and started making pies---pie shells filled with spray whip cream.
So I'm standing there filling a pie and this guy comes up to me and says "You can't be here." I'm like: huh? This is a public park.
He said that later in the day he and some other SF state students were making a film there.
Well aint this a bitch? I'm standing there with a whip cream pie in the middle of 10 acre grassy field and this idiot comes up to me and tells me I can't be there
I look at him, I look at the pie.
Then I think: what would a real  lrrp do?
I look at him, I look at the pie.
I look a him, I look at the pie
then I saw the fear in his eyes
You betcha!!! Right in the kisser!! Moe Howard never got a better one.
this was the starting shot in the pie war. Pies were flying. they go pretty quick.

One of the most satisfying of all my memories to look back on. Carpe Diem

Dd and I arrived home from Spain yesterday afternoon. I was up well before dawn this morning. We have a wonderful time in Spain. the conference was really good, and we spent the weekend in Bilbao. However, the jet lag may be the death of me. I have to teach this morning, and then I am taking a friend to lunch. then I am picking up my kids (one from college and one from the airport) for Thanksgiving. No rest for the weary.

I think it was 1978. I was a young kid. My father was teaching at the Army War College. I recall like it was yesterday, I was like 10, my dad taking me to see a "great American speak."

That man was John McCain ...

For a few minutes there was nothing but a standing obviation. This was 1970s and the place just rocked. I now mock the dude, laugh at him, I find that sad on many levels.

a family that had a great deal of power, it seems he was a failure for most of his early life and at the time he was shot down, his chances at reaching admiral were pretty much gone.

However, in adversity, it appears he grew as an individual and was admirable in how he dealt with captivity.  That being said, based on his behavior in ending his first marriage, it appears that he has many character flaws which became evident as he failed repeatedly in his attempts to reach POTUS.  It appears that somewhere in his life, he decided that he was owed POTUS and feels life and the American people not only failed him but cheated him of his birthright as well

... here, there and everywhere. I haven't checked in for a while. Life for me has been off-kilter since the re-election of POTUS. I started experiencing strange physical symptoms that seemed unconnected, then ten days ago the left side of my face was wracked in pain: the ear canal, neck glands, cheeks, eyes, nose, etc. Within several hours, I developed large rashes on those areas. Then the left side of my face was suddenly paralyzed by Bell's palsy. I couldn't eat, drink or speak without difficulty. Thank God I have health insurance because I was able to see my primary care physician that same day. Advice to anyone in their late 50s and early 60s: if you can, get immunized for shingles. I had chicken pox well over a half-century ago, and the virus decided to strike the left side of my head after being dormant all these years. Shingles sucks big time. Today I have a return visit to my doctor. The symptoms have been mitigating, and I hope by Thanksgiving I can eat, drink and speak more-or-less normally. I'm roasting the turkey, making dressing muffins and Chinese-style green beans. My two daughters are helping me prepare a few other dishes. Well, life is full of surprises, but I must admit I was scared for a few days. Have a good day, MOTley correspondents. And for those who are traveling, be safe!

Ah, my friends from the prison, they ask unto me, "how good, how good does it feel to be free? " And I answer them most mysteriously, "are birds free from the chains of the skyway? " (Bob Dylan)

I would have never guessed shingles from the symptoms you described!  I guess you were frightened.  I hope you recover quickly and with a minimum of discomfort.  I've heard how painful the shingles can be so I'll keep good thoughts that your case is much milder.

What an important experience for your daughters -- to pitch in and cook, clean, etc in preparation for a big holiday.  I'm sure they do their share of chores, but this is different for them.  This time you are really relying on them.  Good growth potential for them, and you too ;)

It is good to hear from you again and if you can't pop back in again before then, Happy Thanksgiving.

I too had chicken pox and have shingles now that re-appear with stress.  What is insane is I see parents are not only pushing the anti-vax propaganda again but some parents are having chicken pox and measles parties again (remember those? For the younger folks: parents used to expose their kids to various communicable diseases so they could get them "over with" before they were teenagers) and even mailing each other infected items so they can try to infect their kids

I am only able to sit up for an hour or so but was able to take new granddaughter and daughter out for lunch yesterday.  Gave other girls prints of different animals and explained to them about spirit guides and totems since they are studying Native American cultures in school.  Upshot was kids ended up fighting over who got which pic so some things never change I guess.

Daughter says she is ready to find another job and get out of the house.  We are in the boonies and she is home with the baby 24/7 currently

I hope pain is due to old trauma to nerves in hip and is not a disc degenerating further.

daughter stopped to pick up detergent with new baby.  White guy standing at entrance started talking loudly about minority teens having baby after baby so they could get rich off welfare and drive nice cars like my daughter was driving.

She wheeled on him, and said "I am 27 years old and worked until I was fired 6 months ago for being pregnant. I have worked regularly since I was 15.  The SUV is my mother's and we bought it for her because she has to have a special van for us to take her to the doctor. She is completely disabled now but was a physician before she became sick"
She then said, "it is midday; why aren't you at work if you are so worried about welfare cheats?"

He muttered something about being on disability and not being able to work and shuffled off.
