Itzl AlertingAs you can see by Itzl's concerned look, this group is for us to check in at to let people know we are alive, doing OK, and not affected by such things as heat, blizzards, floods, wild fires, hurricanes, tornadoes, power outages, or other such things that could keep us off DKos. It's also so we can find other Kossacks nearby for in-person checks when other methods of communication fail - a buddy system. Members come here to check in. If you're not here, or anywhere else on DKos, and there are adverse conditions in your area (floods, heatwaves, hurricanes, etc.), we and your buddy are going to check up on you. If you are going to be away from your computer for a day or a week, let us know here.  We care!

If you'd like to be part of the Itzl Alert Network, please leave a comment asking to join, or send us a message asking to join. We'd love to have you. The bigger our network, the less likely someone will be stranded all alone.

Itzl and Xoco had a playdate last night. As you can tell, Itzl was very impressed.

Xoco had lots of fun, though.

A cold front is supposed to be coming in tonight. Windspeeds are only in the mid-twenties, though, so it will come in slowly. As long as it stays dry, I'll be able to mow and do some essential yardwork.

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.

You can add a private note to this diary when hotlisting it:

one chicken breast will slice into a dozen crunchy treats.  I take a bit of olive oil and mix in glusosamine and doggy vitamins, then lay it all out on some quick release foils and bake it in the oven at 200*F until they are dry and crisp.

I do the same for venison, buffalo, squirrel, rabbit, duck, goose, and ostrich, so they get some variety.

I've also learned to make their own kibble, too.

  •  safe & good company. short day, ate too much! (9+ / 0-)

we got started late & guest has early gigs tomorrow, so it was short. but sweet. all the food we started cooking got finished cooking, although we ended up with a couple of non-starters.

we had good conversation & watched a couple of Dr Who's. a rather lengthy process, as guest is Who-Noob and has a bit of difficulty following. but then, hey, so do we the first couple of viewings! witty dialog, delivered very fast in a variety of marked UK accents, and a lot of background noise in sound track (effects, music, etc.) make for interesting listening. I swear I'd like to just turn on the captioning sometimes, but can't QUITE convince others!

very nice low-key day. our junior hermit had a nice conversation with the guest about origami (which he's done several humdingers of the last week or so), and flyable paper airplanes!

clean-up is almost done, stock pot going good! sent numerous doggy-bags home with guest (she LIKES dark meat, and is as big a fan of our roast potatoes as we are! and is nice enough to enjoy my cranberry relish too!)

  •  Ugh! (6+ / 0-)

Shivering, and dreading my walk this morning.  Winds are only like 6 mph, but it is the 45 feels like 42 that has me wanting to curl back up in bed.  Stupid me forgot to call for my pick up and I don't know if the woman down the street is working today, so in other words....

Not gonna be a fun morning for me.

But it's all good.  I'll survive (or turn in to a popsicle on the side of the road at some point this morning).

Yesterday was a good day, today I work until 2 and hopefully it won't be so horribly bad.  Beyond that I've got the weekend to unwind.

  •  That cold front has dropped the temps (6+ / 0-)

30 degrees since yesterday.  Windchills (with 20-30 mph gusts) in the 20s, even teens, here in Iowa.  I was debating a little jaunt to the casino here, but standing out on that exposed corner waiting for a bus has somehow lost its appeal.  :-)  Oh well, the $20 I'd have to spend wouldn't last long anyway...

There is nowhere else that I'd want to go today.  Even the grocery store is into the Black Friday crap.  :-(

Whoa, the temperature sure did drop.  In Chicago right now it's 36 degrees with wind gusts up to 45 mph.  Feels like it's in the teens.  Yesterday was 60.  Winter's coming.

Thanksgiving was good, but since I didn't have it, we have no leftovers.  Going food shopping today.

    Have a great day.

I am a work in progress. Still.

Cold tired and achy this morning, but yesterday went very well so it was worth it. Some of it is the cold, some of it is my body reacting to everything I did yesterday. I didn't get any text messages saying "frozen on side of road, please bring hot water" so I think Caedy made it to work ok ;). I'll text her in a bit, right now she's in the middle of breakfast rush.

Today is a more laid back day. We still have dishes to do for clean up, but I'll wait until it warms up first (right now it's still 45 feels like 42, but it's supposed to get up near 70). My son said he'd do the clean up dishes, so I'll remind him of that this afternoon.

No guests yesterday, it was just the five of us. We watched the Avengers (good, funny, everyone enjoyed it.. Especially the Hulk throwing Loki around like a rag doll) followed by Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter (pretty good, book was better but not any more graphic than I expected it to be). Well bit watched Disney in my room while the rest of us watched Lincoln. Then we watched Punkin' Chunkin' on the Science channel.

Draco may walk up to the convenience store later for caffeine since we're almost out of Cold Brew and I really don't want to make Caedy go into Walmart today. I missed that one when I was making up the list on Wednesday.

  •  The cold will arrive here later today, they are (6+ / 0-)

predicting some cold rain, then snow for the weekend.  I have no plans except,

Okiciyap Group will be asking for warm winter wear for kids in a diary to publish on Sunday.  Here is a chance to clean out a closet or shop for new or gently used winter clothing and blankets, all to help the folks served by the Okiciyap Food Pantry in Isabel, SD.
I hope you will stop by to help us keep visibility, starting in the early afternoon (eastern).

Please donate to Okiciyap food pantry. . If love could have saved you, you would have lived forever.
