Rick Warren is still as big a jerk as ever. Piers Morgan brought the eternally smug Rick Warren and his phony "I ♥ Everyone" Church Lady act on last night. Was it to discuss the American Christian Evangelical community's involvement the with the Uganda "Kill the Gays" bill that the State Dept. is currently furiously working to stop from passing the parliament? Nope, he was asked about his opposition to marriage equality.
Rick Warren wraps up his interview by saying, "This is the very kind of discussions we need to be having, that are saying, treat everyone with dignity, that treat everyone with love, but we could disagree on certain issues."
And how is Rick Warren treating gay people with love and respecting their dignity?
By comparing same-sex attraction with arsenic and violence, like punching people in the eye. Via Raw Story:
“Here’s what we know about life,” Warren continued. “I have all kinds of natural feelings in my life and it doesn’t necessarily mean that I should act on every feeling. Sometimes I get angry and feel like punching a guy in the nose. That doesn’t mean I act on it. Sometimes I feel attracted to women who are not my wife. I don’t act on it. Just because I have a feeling doesn’t make it right. Not everything natural is good for me. Arsenic is natural.”Fuck you, Rick Warren. You can stuff your phony version of love and respect.
I've experienced same-sex attraction. I am also currently experiencing a powerful desire to punch a guy in the eye.
It's not the same thing at all.
And no, my natural inclination to love a man is not the same as a deadly and fatal poison called arsenic.
I really wish Morgan had at least thought to ask Warren about the return of Ugandan "Kill the Gays" bill which Warren condemned in the past after great pressure but remains silent on now. Then at least something useful and helpful might have come out of this interview. This is probably just a PR-flack instigated effort to troll for an inauguration invite (don't even think about it!).
After all, the American Christian Evangelicals like Rick Warren are responsible for this bill in the first place. They shouldn't be allowed to wash their hands of their meddling, not that it's poised to pass parliament.
