More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.

You can add a private note to this diary when hotlisting it:
Are you sure you want to remove this diary from your hotlist?

(The diary will be removed from the site and returned to your drafts for further editing.)
(The diary will be removed.)
Are you sure you want to save these changes to the published diary?

Have the Republicans finally reached their Joseph Welch moment with the disabilities treaty vote?
This has been another edition of Simple Answers to Simple Questions. (h/t Atrios of course)
  •  Called A Few Of Their Offices This Morning.... (11+ / 0-)

Their official excuse (Mike Lee & Orrin Hatch) is that the Treaty compromised "American soverignity".  Where is the language in the Treaty about disabled homeschoolers & abortion?  It doesn't exist.  This is merely caving to the Tea Baggers.

They walked by Bob Dole who had just gotten out of the hospital.  He was in a wheelchair.  Orrin Hatch walked right by his old pal & turned his back on him.  Mr. Dole only needed 5 more votes to get a super majority.

Instead the Treaty was turned down because of 5 Senators:  Hatch, Cochran, Shelby, Grassley & McConnell.

McConnell is hiding out this morning.  His calls are not being picked up by his staff in DC or in Kentucky.

Hatch just got reelected.  His old hide is safe for 6 more years.  What a lousy friend to Bob Dole.  Hatch, the old fraud, ought to be ashamed of himself.

    •  they would be, if they had a shame gene. (0+ / 0-)

I am convinced that rampant TeaBuggerism requires genetic manipulation of the shame gene, to either remove it or to shut it down permanently. Being a recessive gene, their offspring require both parents to suffer from it in order for that defect to be transferred to later generations. Inbred families, (Tennessee, Florida,  Missississippi, South Carolina, Florida suffer the most. Texas comes close, but for Austin.)

What we call god is merely a living creature with superior technology & understanding. If their fragile egos demand prayer, they lose that superiority.

  •  Loved the video. Have not seen that before. (0+ / 0-)

I have one comment to make to everyone who posts links. You can add this to your link code that dailykos puts in your posts and it will make the viewers browser open an additional window (not a popup), and leave the original window, with your post, still there. This will insure readers don't lose your page. (Of course they can always use the back button but if they close the window they can't use the backbutton.)

Add it to your comment right here as shown below, after the dailykos "LINK" button adds the link code. I replaced the < and > with { and } because if I didn't the comment would get re-written as code and wouldn't display.

    {a href="[your link url here]" target="_blank" }  [your link text here]  {/a}

Maybe there is a reason dailykos does not do this in their LINK button. I don't know. If this is forbidden then I apologize in advance.

    •  This is a headline question and a link. (0+ / 0-)

Have to agree with mcgee here. Maybe the diarist could answer questions like:

How would we know if this is a Welch moment?
What would happen differently than during the bully-Republicanism?
What in this situation is happening differently that suggests a Welch-level shift?
Alternately, what may suggest this is same-ol'-same-ol'?

A winning campaign? You didn't build that...

    •  While I agree that some comment would be helpful (0+ / 0-)

I think this could be stated a bit more diplomatically. I understand that there are plenty of people who may not get the reference (I am not one of those people) and it would have been appropriate for the diarist to provide background. Or perhaps a commenter could have provided the background.

Indeed, this would be a Joseph Welch moment, were it not already clear that the Republicans lost their sense of decency a long, long time ago.

    •  I spend way too much time here (0+ / 0-)

This is my escape from the day to day crap I deal with.
Each time I log in I am hoping for the logjam to be broken and normality to be flowing. I am one of the many that needs this economy to work for the little guy again. So when I open a diary that might give me a glimmer of hope, I don't want a headline and a link. I want some substance. Maybe we need a new category or some signal like nt in the title

I don't hit. But I do hit back
