It's been noted here already that the NRA has gone into media blackout mode since the horror in Newtown, CT, going silent on Twitter and removing their Facebook page, while also refusing to comment on the incident. Well, it appears the NRA's pet politicians are following their masters' leads, at least as far as the Senate is going. Meet the Press had extended invitations to 31 pro-gun members of the Senate to come onto the show this morning and share their views? How many accepted? As David Gregory put it, a big fat zero.
"We reached out to all 31 pro-gun rights Senators in the new Congress to invite them on the program to share their views on the subject this morning," he said. "We had no takers."
This was confirmed by
MTP exec producer Betsy Fischer Martin on Twitter. This, of course, was contrasted by the very visable presence of such gun control advocates as
Dianne Feinstein and
Michael Bloomberg on
MTP this morning.
So it appears the pro-gun lobby has gotten the message and gone dark. Unfortunately, someone forgot to tell Mike Huckabee or Louis Gohmert.
Stay tuned to see what their eventually response is. It's going to have to be a doozy to get them out of the P.R. nightmare they now face.
