Last week I posted a short diary about the need for donations to help the town of Crisfield, Maryland.
Crisfield and its immediate environs got a concentrated dose of storm surge damage. They can still use any donations, large or small. Online donations here.
The county and town governments got FEMA help with repairing infrastructure. At first, federal help for individuals and local businesses was denied. Democratic Sen. Barbara Mikulski and Sen. Ben Cardin along with the governor went to have the decision reversed through appeal. Republican Congressman and deficit raptor Andy Harris, MD-01, also chimed in.
I'm happy to report that their efforts worked. According to the Crisfield Recovery website,
"The appeal was granted and Somerset County was awarded Individual Assistance, thanks in large part to the hard work of the Governor’s office, our federal delegation, and state and local leadership and also through the tireless work of Steve Marshall and the teams of inspectors from the county and the city who kept doing PDAs. Thank you to everyone who pushed for this appeal and made this happen."
Crisfield is a very poor city in Maryland's poorest county. So the idea that local resources are enough doesn't work.
Prior to hearing about the reversal I sent a donation through the Crisfield Recovery donation link:

and received this acknowledgement:
