The Australians Got It.

Apparently until the NRA is declared a terrorist organization in the US, the people of the US are not going to have th privilege of Getting It.

It's time the NRA was declared a terrorist organization, a criminal organization.

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.

You can add a private note to this diary when hotlisting it:
Are you sure you want to remove this diary from your hotlist?
Are you sure you want to remove your recommendation? You can only recommend a diary once, so you will not be able to re-recommend it afterwards.

  •  Sigh. Why can't we have a reasonable discussion? (0+ / 0-)

Why do we have to say that there's only one solution?

Why do we have to refuse to see that our society has changed -- and that those changes have not been for the better?

Why do we have to always give up more, give away more, put an illusion of safety ahead of all other concerns, especially the law of the land?

I can't stand the NRA, but I will strongly oppose any effort to declare the NRA a "terrorist" or "criminal" organization.

States in which certain political groups are declared criminal for no reason other than that the government doesn't like their ideas are not healthy or free states.

    •  When a group promotes havoc and terrorism for (0+ / 0-)

profit, what in hell else is it *other *than a terrorist organization?

I suggest you educate yourself on the NRA and ALEC both.
      ::sigh::

Did you (not)think I started posting on KOS just because I want to be unpopular and needed internet confirmation of unpopularity or something equivalently masochistic?  You've managed to find two out of four diaries in two days and parent on them negatively, as if your writing the collective voice of "leftwing" reason.  It isn't. I've done my homework and watched both ALEC and the NRA since Alec's inception and before that.

      Get better acquainted with facts.

The only thing a gun or a projectile hurler like a bow and arrow built for is killing.  All the other things that people can purchase over the counter have other uses than killing human beings (or occasionally food).

Don't attempt to argue "target practice". That's just a training skillset.

I've OWNED guns and still own *one a single shot rifle for hunting game, and I can *still hunt -- have the ability and skills for it.

I've used guns and bows and I'm not speaking from inexperience or willful ignorance, either one.  Learn more about ALEC and the NRA -- not what they advertise, but what they do and have done.

When they do it legally, by acting through the political system? That's not terrorism. The definition of terrorism is more about the means chosen to the end, than about the end itself.
The only thing a gun or a projectile hurler like a bow and arrow built for is killing.  All the other things that people can purchase over the counter have other uses than killing human beings (or occasionally food).
Even if that's true—and many hunters I've known would quibble with your statement that guns are only "occasionally" used for food, to say nothing of those who live in the country and use their guns on dangerous pests like coyotes—that doesn't make an organization that engages in political advocacy for people's right to have such things into a "terrorist organization."
Don't attempt to argue "target practice". That's just a training skillset.
Again, even if that is true—and I don't think it is—that still doesn't make an organization that engages in political advocacy for people's right to engage in shooting sports into a "terrorist organization."
Learn more about ALEC and the NRA -- not what they advertise, but what they do and have done.
Okay, since you claim to have greater knowledge about these things than I do, please point me to situations in which each of those organizations, as an organization, used terrorist means to achieve their ends. In doing so, of course, you'll have to provide an operative definition of terrorism and cite some kind of authoritative source for your definition, and then demonstrate through evidence how those organizations' actions fit that definition.

the political system, gerrymander states, buy legislators, use ALEC and a dozen other outfits to do it and get other corporations to BUY INTO A. L. E. C. manufacture via press they can buy artificial public opinion and pass laws which put the very public they manipulate into danger, that is a form of terrorism.  They manipulate people by fear, by threats of horrors they end up experiencing MORE of, and blame those horrors on something other than themselves, though they've created and manipulated and staged thsoe horrors, that is terrorism. you still didn't read the links.

You don't want to see fact.  It's like my telling the person at breakfast that she voted for the very person who raised her taxes and had no one to blame for that but hreself, she didn't want to hear it so she never spoke to me again, put me in a social bell jar to avoid hearing what she already knew.

Go one use the bell jar, James. I have a hammer.  or  better yet, buy earplugs.

Enjoy your gun owning neighbor.  I hope you hase really thick walls, as you never know what direction it may go off in.

I fart in your general direction. Now run away before I taunt you some more

          •  Again... words mean things. (0+ / 0-)
WHEN the KOCHS **RIG** the political system, gerrymander states, buy legislators, use ALEC and a dozen other outfits to do it and get other corporations to BUY INTO A. L. E. C. manufacture via press they can buy artificial public opinion and pass laws which put the very public they manipulate into danger, that is a form of terrorism.
No. That's not any form of terrorism. It's certainly corrupt, but corruption is not terrorism. Words mean things.
They manipulate people by fear, by threats of horrors they end up experiencing MORE of, and blame those horrors on something other than themselves, though they've created and manipulated and staged thsoe horrors, that is terrorism.
No. That is not terrorism. It's gross manipulation, but gross manipulation is not terrorism. Words mean things.

The word "terrorism" has a meaning, and that meaning isn't just "people who do things we don't like" or even "people who act unethically or immorally."

So, again, I ask you: can you demonstrate that these organizations have engaged in acts that are actually defined as terrorism, according to any authoritative definition of the term used in the academic, diplomatic, military, or policy circles in which experts discuss these matters?

...the fact that words mean things.

The word "terrorism" has a definition—and simply "doing something that is bad for the country" no more fits that definition than "being corrupt" or "acting unethically."
