The NRA has blood on their hands. We know of all of their efforts to keep our country awash in guns. In the past they have intimidated our legislators into silence. Their power was feared.
Newtown has changed everything. Yes, we must tell our President and our senators and representatives to ban assault weapons and large capacity gun clips. We must keep guns out of the hands of deranged individuals.
I called the NRA-ILA today and yesterday and I am asking you to do the same. Do not leave a message but wait to talk with someone. Take up their time, jam their phone lines, let them know that this time is different. They must sit down with our leaders and gun control representatives to agree on what can be done to protect our children.
IF they want to be part of the debate, they must step up now.

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.

  •  I Called & After A Very, Very Long Wait.... (0+ / 0-)

spoke to an actual person.  A young girl who was polite & listened but who believed Adam Lanza's mother bought her guns illegally, was not dissuaded.

When I reminded her the Gun Owners of America, another well funded gun lobbyist, is saying the NRA is in "possum mode", she said their CEO was writing up a response as we spoke.

We'll see. That ought to be interesting.

Called and asked to speak with any staff members who'd ever had to drill little kids in what to do if there were a gunman in the building, like I had as a teacher, and knew how gut-wrenching it was to just do a drill.  Their main switchboard and ILA people did not connect me to anyone, nor did they wish to speak with me.  One man said it was just like a fire drill or nuclear attack drill.  Then he said words to the effect that I was just being mean to him and hung up.  Felt good to tie up their lines for a while, though, and make my point.

  •  What's the "vote" about? Is this a specific line (1+ / 0-)

for a specific NRA department or a related project?  Are they going to ask what our position is on something we know nothing about?

Or is it a general line you just want people to call to express our outrage?  That could be a good idea.  But if you want people to do somehting, it might be a good idea to give a bit more actual information.

The phone line is for the NRA-ILA (Institute for Legislative Affairs) They have gotten so many angry calls since yesterday that they changed their phone prompts. One is to leave comments. I ignored that and selected the prompt to speak to a person. We need to bombard them with calls AFTER we have called all of our legislators.
