The term "reality distortion field" has been used liberally in the past to refer to the late Steve Jobs' keynote addresses at the annual Macworld convention in San Francisco.

However, after having tuned in to the Senate on C-SPAN2, I have decided to honor this channel with that title, as it is heavily appropriate today. More after the orange Kozdoodle

Almost ALL of the reality distortion field emanating from the Senate is coming from the mouths of GOP senators - Thune, Corker, McCain, Isaakson...

Extemporaneous comments from these senators clearly indicate exactly how out of touch they all are with the REAL reason our nation is facing the crisis we currently face.

They have all conveniently forgotten that it was THEIR party who enacted the disastrous financial policies, involved the US in two unpaid-for wars, and gave unprecedented tax breaks to the wealthy.

If I hear "we have a spending problem" one more time, without someone in the GOP adding "that WE created" I think I am going to scream.

GOP intransigence in solving the very problem that THEY created is ludicrous, and is only exceeded by the disingenuous manner in which they conveniently forget to acknowledge these problems are of THEIR making.

Sorry - I realize this is short diary, but I'm frankly totally FED UP with the way the GOP is trying to blame the Democrats for the Republicans fiscal follies and financial policy failures.

Hopefully, 2013 will bring us LESS GOP insanity, and put us closer to a Congress that actually works to resolve the problems faced by ordinar citizens.

Happy New Year to you all, and many thanks for the many great diaries this year.

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.

Help American return to sanity - vote the GOP OUT OF the House Majority and reduce their numbers in the Senate in 2014 elections. America requires Democratic action in order to survive!

Showing these twits behind a podium speaking to an empty chamber might pull the wool from at least a few people's eyes.

Poor people have too much money and vote too often. Republican platform plank, 1980 - present

from behind that did hint how empty the chamber was...

Guess the GOP was once again following the Newt Gingrich "play to the camera" fake book.

The Repukes don't realize that all that talking just makes them look more guilty. While you hate the "spending problem"meme, the one that makes me crazy is "even if we raise taxes, it will only cover one week of what it costs to run the government." 1) If that's true, at least it's a start, and 2) If it's such a small amount, why are they concerned? and 3) funny how that same amount managed to crash the entire economy!!

the level of hypocrisy present in their legislative activities the past few years has been mind-boggling.

In all my 60+ years, I have NEVER seen such a level of party-over-country as we have seen since Obama's election.
