Help! I need to share this with the community so I'm not the only one who is sick to their stomach over a letter to the editor in my local newspaper, The Ridgefield Press (Ridgefield, CT).

This LTE is from a 13 year old boy and his 10 year old brother. It is in response to a "pro-democratic" LTE from a week ago which I saw, but I have already recycled the newspaper . The Press does not have its  LTEs online. I'm keeping all of the names out of it.

Democrats Don't Keep Kids Safe.

In response to "Dr. X's" letter we would like to correct some faults its contents could possibly have conveyed. In his letter, he mentioned the fact that in order to protect children, we should vote for only Democratic candidates. The letter ran as follows: "Therefore , for those parents wishing to keep their children safe, I would strongly urge voting only for Democratic candidate for federal, state, and local offices."

With all due respect, the doctor's statement is incorrect. Saying that Democrats would keep children safe is a complete contradiction, since everyone knows that Democrats support Planned Parenthood, the leading human slaughter house in the United States, committing up to 3,288 murders each day with about one abortion every 26 seconds.

It is despicable to say they care, or even give a thought about children's safety, when millions of lives are thrown away at their hands. As children, we are thankful that we have not been given up to this fate and we are horrified at the conduct of our present government leaders. Studying politics very closely, we realize that there has rarely been a Democrat who hasn't been so careless about these precious human lies. We sincerely hope that at least one person who has been taken in by the doctor's letter has a change of heart, and we kindly ask Dr. X himself to look at this matter from a moral and logical viewpoint.

Incidentally , on the subject of gun control, the Second Amendment  of the Constitution has already settled the matter. It clearly states that all citizens have the right to bear arms. This is a law. There is nothing in the Constitution, however, that justifies the killing of an innocent child.

Where do I start???

It really doesn't even matter what the original LTE was. No 13 year old and 10 year old do this completely on their own, there parents were clearly behind it. Even if they wanted to do it why would the parents let them?

I hear my kid echo some of my opinions, but I always try to make sure that he understands why I feel the way I do and encourage him to develop his own opinions. He'
s on the autism spectrum so I may not have the easiest job and he isn't typical.

The ignorance on planned parenthood is appalling.

Some more background... Ridgefield is two towns away from Newtown. The town these folks come from is adjacent to Newtown . They have their own town newspaper and  wondering if this piece didn't get into multiple papers.

I sure hope for everyone's sake these kids eventually develop some critical thinking skills.

Just had to get this one off my chest.

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.

    •  For a child to claim to be "conservative" (0+ / 0-)

He or she would have to be cogent with oxymoronic labeling, and familiar with the concept of The Big Lie - since "Conservatives" conserve little except their accrued wealth and their obsolete traditions.

...The grade level of what would be written by a 13 year old even if he was a "Fairfield County, Born With A Silver Spoon In His Mouth, Hedge Fund Manager's Spawn, Attending Prep School."

Conservatives just aren't that smart, especially the ones that launch into Planned Parenthood and 2nd Amendment Rants. Those rants are typically made by the low hanging fruit or, the drops...

Either mom or, dad wrote it for them or, it was a cut n' paste...

I would write a LTE praising them for attaining the writing level of a college junior at age 10 & 13, then tell them how proud their mom and dad should be of their writing abilities, and how Ridgefield should be so proud of their school system for teaching these boys so well...

Somehow I think the readers will be able to Read Between The Lines of your LTE...

  •  Write a LTE to that 13 year old boy: (6+ / 0-)

    "Dear X:

You are absolutely correct.  The Second Amendment says that ALL citizens have the right to bear arms.  Therefore, I'm going to the local mental ward and pass out guns to the patients there.  I'm also going to the worst part of town and pass out guns to all the ex convicts.  They are citizens and have the right to bear arms.  I will point out how wonderful a town Ridgefield is and how good a place to live it is."

  •  I don't hyperventilate about (7+ / 0-)

political conservatism by children and young people. Why? They generally outgrow it. I also don't get hysterical about "concerted RW attempts to co-opt the next generation." Why not? They generally fail.

Every reputable demographic statistic out there, shows the influence of traditional RW views to be waning. The angry old white men are dying out. Nobody really is coming up to replace them.

I think these kids will most likely go away to college and have whole worlds open up to them they never fathomed before.

up on Zillow and its worth about $1.5M. That doesn't go as far here as it does in other places in the country, but its still pretty damn good.  I'm sure that these kids are spared nothing when it comes to education or anything else.

  •  Um yeah right (4+ / 0-)

That letter WAS NOT WRITTEN by a 13 and a 10 year old.

Unfortunately that's par for the course in Ridgefield and not all that surprising that parents in that town would use their kids for political cover.  Maybe that's why the kids in that town grow up to become cokeheads in HS.

Is that online because I'd sure love to know who 'wrote' that drivel so I can smack their parents upside the head.

My parents worked very hard to raise me up as a good conservative. At this kids age I would have sounded a lot like this. At least as far as abortion goes.

My parents failed miserably.  My daughter was just telling me just how far left wing she thinks I am. I relied that yes, I believe that food, shelter, education, clothing, economic opportunity and medical care were human rights that went along with the right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.

My parents thought that any smart sensible person would see the rightness of conservatism.  The more I learned and matured the more I realized how full of crap they were and that only made me think more and learn more and become more liberal.

There is hope for these young men too. If they are smart enough, and not greedy, they will eventually join us.

That passed by; this can, too. - Deor
