Besides learning how tactful and polite your typical gun advocate is, I also learned  that in the UK last year, there was a grand total of 35 deaths (murders) due to guns; in the USA that statistic: 11,458 gun murders.

Thanks Pier Morgan for making that point, when you got the chance (in between gasps for air and the venom-reloads of your guest).

Wow.  Try the decaff next time Alex.  Inside voices.

Of course that extreme gun-safety record, came with an extreme gun control price. It seems there was one shocking event in the UK, that kicked off a series of over-the-top extreme gun control measures there:

Dunblane: How UK school massacre led to tighter gun control
by Peter Wilkinson, CNN -- Dec 17, 2012

In the wake of the 1987 Hungerford massacre, in which one lone gunman killed 16 people, Britain introduced new legislation -- the Firearms (Amendment) Act 1988 -- making registration mandatory for owning shotguns and banning semi-automatic and pump-action weapons.

Within a year and a half of the Dunblane massacre, UK lawmakers had passed a ban on the private ownership of all handguns in mainland Britain, giving the country some of the toughest anti-gun legislation in the world. After both shootings there were firearm amnesties across the UK, resulting in the surrender of thousands of firearms and rounds of ammunition.

I guess that explains some of Alex Jones' venom to his UK host.

As if that 2nd paragraph would ever happen here in the USA -- different countries, different cultures, different histories.

But that does not mean some middle ground, like in the first paragraph, cannot be found here in the U.S. of A. If not, well the price of doing nothing -- it's painted in our daily, weekly, and monthly headlines.

More Pain.

Maybe, just maybe, Guns really do kill people?  Maybe, just maybe, the right to bear Muskets would kill less people?

Just saying what those Constitutional fore-fathers might have been thinking of ... when they were guaranteeing the existence of an armed militia.

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.
