Many years after the assault happened to a man so dejected by the lack of justice in this country he never bothered to complain. I know that sentiment well.

These officers have no excuse for their behavior. The man was obviously compliant. What this video shows is clear abuse under the color of authority. If someone without a badge did this to someone they would be sitting in jail with excessive bail. But since they are police officers and the other officers have decided they will ignore illegal acts by their fellow officers, as this clearly shows, they can carry on for years abusing untold numbers before they are stopped.

Where is the District Attorney?

The DOJ?

Anyone?

"He never said anything because Bridgeport police (are) so corrupt that nobody would believe him anyway," she said.

The video was said to have been shot in May 2011 at Beardsley Park.

About 20 months after the beating, the recording was posted on YouTube.

Attorney Robert Berke said Soto was initially stopped for a traffic violation, but got out of his car and ran.

Berke said after the beating, his client needed six stitches on his face.

The Bridgeport police chief said an internal investigation has been ordered and if violations are found, they will "take action."

The family said they intend to sue all police officers involved.

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.
