I also wanted to let you know some more details about the rally. We'll be gathering on the National Mall between the Washington Monument and the White House -- the nearest Metro Stations (subway) are Federal Triangle and Smithsonian. Actions will include a march to the White House and a giant human pipeline down 15th Street that will transform into a symbol of renewable energy. And we'll have a big announcement about speakers by next week!

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.

You can add a private note to this diary when hotlisting it:
Are you sure you want to remove this diary from your hotlist?
Are you sure you want to remove your recommendation? You can only recommend a diary once, so you will not be able to re-recommend it afterwards.
Rescue this diary, and add a note:
Are you sure you want to remove this diary from Rescue?
Choose where to republish this diary. The diary will be added to the queue for that group. Publish it from the queue to make it appear.

Add a quick update to your diary without changing the diary itself:

(The diary will be removed from the site and returned to your drafts for further editing.)
(The diary will be removed.)
Are you sure you want to save these changes to the published diary?

You must be wearing those dogs out during the day for them to let you sleep so much lately!

If they are getting worn out it is mostly from watching me ;)

Well, not so much for the younger one as she's fond of racing around the back yard.  She flies out the backdoor every time it opens with great hopes of catching a slow moving squirrel and some days I swear she could take flight.

        Have a great day!

I must not be the only one sleeping late then ;)

I have a 2006 toyota rav4 with 53,047  miles and you know other than oil changes and gas, this is the first thing I have had to do to that car.  I bought it used in 2008 because I knew it would be easier for my husband to get in and out of as by that time his health was getting pretty bad.  We had a lift on the back for his scooter and on the other car - a sedan - I really could never use the trunk because of the lift.  With the rav 4, that didn't create a problem.  I told the mechanic that I wondered if hauling that lift all those years could have caused the struts to need replacing maybe sooner than normal.  ??  Heck, what do I know.

Even though the car is older, I'm not concerned about getting a new car since it runs like a champ with great gas mileage.  I'll probably drive it until it starts looking bad or begins to give me trouble.

  •  Ethan, the little Alabama boy who was abducted (5+ / 0-)

and held in that underground bunker, is celebrating his 6th birthday today.  Reports say he's behaving normally.

Today my paper reports that Jimmy Lee Dykes, the abductor, lived here in Jax during the early 2000s for a couple of years.  He lived in a mobile home park on the westside of town and naturally the people who were interviewed said he was not a troublemaker and was a simple working guy.  That's always the way it is, the guy was seemingly normal those who knew him say.  Right on up until the time he snaps and does something horrible.

Wishing little Ethan a happy birthday today!

Sounds as if they used a flash-bang grenade to startle, surprise and stun the guy.  I have been close to one of those when it went off and I was not expecting it.  They are harmless unless you are standing right next to it, but if it is a surprise, you will jump clear out of your skin.  Brilliant flash of light and a very loud BANG at the same time.  You will need a fresh set of underwear.

At any rate, they are used to stun and distract a bad guy in order to give the assault team a tactical advantage.  Since the perp was armed, known to be violent and mentally unstable, they did not have very many options except to use deadly force.  Given the risk to the child and officers, they did the right thing.

as all the reports stated that he'd put quite a bit of foresight into that bunker.  I believe it was you that noted the one thing he did not do was plan an exit strategy.  I am so happy the authorities were able to save the child's life.

Heh, I had a brush with a grenade just the other day.  I washed a load of laundry and tossed it into the dryer.  The dryer began  making a loud clanking sound and when I opened it a hand grenade fell out - a toy one, of course.  I keep forgetting to check my 4 year old grandson's pockets when I do any of his laundry and the most common thing to find in the dryer is a stick.  This was the first time I found a grenade ;-)

    meet-up eeff.

There is a place called Buffalo Billiards off Dupont Circle (easy metro access). They are a casual dining place with pool tables, dart boards, shuffle board, etc. Only bad thing is that they can be loud at night. But they would let us reserve a spot pretty easy for the evening time.

Alternate would be to meet for breakfast before hand. There is a chain of restaurants called Le Pain Quotidien. They all have a community table in the middle of the restaurant. We wouldn't need reservations, we could just all sit at the community table as we showed up.

Two Great lakes at shallowest levels ever recorded

Measurements taken last month show Lake Huron and Lake Michigan have reached their lowest ebb since record keeping began in 1918, and the lakes could set additional records over the next few months, the corps said. The lakes were 29 inches below their long-term average and had declined 17 inches since January 2012.

The other Great Lakes, Superior, Erie and Ontario, were also well below average.

"We're in an extreme situation," said Keith Kompoltowicz, watershed hydrology chief for the corps district office in Detroit.

The low water has caused heavy economic losses by forcing cargo ships to carry lighter loads, leaving boat docks high and dry, and damaging fish-spawning areas. And vegetation has sprung up in newly exposed shoreline bottomlands, a turnoff for hotel customers who prefer sandy beaches.

Bright, sunny and severe clear.  This is very strange weather we have had the past two or three years.

I was up half the night and am going to lay back down and take a nap.  No appointments scheduled, but I do have to clean off my desk and call a little old lady to see if I can drop by her place for a home visit this afternoon.  Looks like Thursday and Friday are going to be hectic.

I was supposed to be in criminal court today, but they had to continue due to the lawyers office flooding during the storm we had the other day.  The Public Defender is having to look for a new office.   Hope no critical documents, computers or copiers were damaged.  I may go over there...I can't call and check on the situation because all their phones are out.

Hope everyone has a good day and get all your to-do lists taken care of.

Good news!! A friend asked me to lend him $10K, secured by his car. before I could say no, he changed his mind.
Guess I'm doing OK if someone thinks I can lend him that much. (you can fool some of the people, etc)
