Itzl AlertingAs you can see by Itzl's concerned look, this group is for us to check in at to let people know we are alive, doing OK, and not affected by such things as heat, blizzards, floods, wild fires, hurricanes, tornadoes, power outages, or other such things that could keep us off DKos. It's also so we can find other Kossacks nearby for in-person checks when other methods of communication fail - a buddy system. Members come here to check in. If you're not here, or anywhere else on DKos, and there are adverse conditions in your area (floods, heatwaves, hurricanes, etc.), we and your buddy are going to check up on you. If you are going to be away from your computer for a day or a week, let us know here.  We care!

If you'd like to be part of the Itzl Alert Network, please leave a comment asking to join, or send us a message asking to join. We'd love to have you. The bigger our network, the less likely someone will be stranded all alone.

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.

You can add a private note to this diary when hotlisting it:
Are you sure you want to remove this diary from your hotlist?
Are you sure you want to remove your recommendation? You can only recommend a diary once, so you will not be able to re-recommend it afterwards.

(The diary will be removed.)
Are you sure you want to save these changes to the published diary?

Sometimes, I wish I had an Itzl to help begin my mornings. Xoco is lucky to have such a stalwart buddy.

  •  Sleep? What's sleep? (8+ / 0-)

Got to bed later than I wanted, because I was waiting for the sheets and blankets to finish in the drier. Was awake at 3am anyway or shortly thereafter because my decongestant wore off. Now Dad's up on a neb, I'll probably do one too. Then hopefully back to sleep for a couple of hours. Still trying to get packing done and that list keeps cycling through my head, which is just making it harder to sleep. Maybe I can get my daughter to help in the bathroom tomorrow while her brother does her room. She's been freaking out over packing her room and has gotten very little done. He has his room about finished.
I'm really proud of Draco, he' broke the task down into smaller parts, got some done every night without overwhelming himself, and now only has a couple of breakable things to pack and things like his computer and game system that are his last minute items. Which is good because I need his help with the rest of the house.

Do you keep it with you so you can add and subtract?  I made my traveling list so early, that I was packed for three weeks before going on the plane!  That took the stress off, even with ongoing changes to the list!

I empathize with you about the move, I had to move stuff a short distance into the new place, but, the old owner couldn't get into her apartment for 6 weeks, and since she was 82, I arranged that she could pay me rent and that I could start moving boxes into the garage and the 2nd floor.

I finally was able to move in 2 days before I had to go back to teaching, right after labor day.  I still have a few boxes in the garage! It is so much easier when you can move things right into the place where they are going to stay instead of moving everything twice.

What kind of game can you play with your daughter to get her to help?

just pack the whole house LOL. I've been going through and de-pack-ratting while I pack, so that takes longer as well, but it needs to be done. We're not moving everything.  I wish we could pack things and move them right to the new place, but it's too far away for that. My in laws are coming Wednesday with the truck to load everything and move it.

As for Bit... some of it is that she doesn't want to throw anything away, even broken barbie doll furniture. She wants to keep it. Her stuff really needs to get cleaned out. That's part of the problem. Part of it is she's almost 10, and going through body changes. She's also of two feelings about the move because she's leaving friends behind. I think it may help that I found a playground Girl's Club about 4 blocks from the new house.

My child also didn't want to toss, but I never had to move that stuff.  I just boxed it and kept it in the closet until college, then went through it and only saved what might have been useful.  (I still have boxes of collectable magazines that there has been no room for, but that won't be forever!)

that's exactly what it is. We've been here about 6 years and things just.. accumulate. This is a good reason to clean things out. I just can't convince my daughter of that LOL. We got the bathroom done, just have to get the trash out, but I'm taking a break. Just have the last minute stuff in there to throw into a bag on Wed. morning (deodorant, tooth brushes, etc.) I'm packing up clothes today too all but a couple of outfits a piece. Emptying out closets, etc. CPAP I can't pack until Wednesday, Nebulizer moves in the car with us in case, ditto laptops. I have to pack up Draco's collector dragon lamp yet, but I have a whole big box of packing peanuts and the original box to put that in. I'm at the much done but pulling my hair out stage LOL.

  •  Good morning everyone! (8+ / 0-)

Puppies are so cute. It's interesting the way that both of yours changed their colors. I have one black one, and one white one. They're the same at 5 years as they were at 3 months.

Nice day today. We're having 3 couples  over for root beer floats and cookies tonight.

    Have a good day.

I am a work in progress. Still.

  •  Good morning (9+ / 0-)

I know, it's early, but I went to bed early last night and this reflects six hours of sleep. Almost ready for my 3:30 PM class but it's the morning that could be a minefield. I still can't access my class rosters after spending almost an hour on the phone with IT last Thursdays. Ah, well.

    •  Ain't technology grand? (6+ / 0-)

I so understand your frustration.  I have been composing music on this machine using the same program for 2+ years.  All of a sudden, I couldn't open ANY of it.  The program opened, I could see the little view in the task bar, but nothing would open up.  My geek friend spent most of Mass yesterday (hidden in the choir loft) figuring out how to open them.  I have to jump through some hoops, but at least I'm back in business.

Hope your problem is resolved soon.

  •  It occurs to me that I may have commented here (0+ / 0-)

but I didn't officially request to become part of this network.  In that case, I apologize for crashing the "party".

It also occurs to me that since I recently "lost" my best and only friend to weird circumstances (I have a number of acquaintances) I'm running low on human interaction - even the blogging kind.

Would it be ok if I jumped in here?

    Peace,
