If somone goes out to purchase a new retail copy of Microsoft Office 2013 you are only allowed to use one license for one single install. What does this mean for the average consumer?

What does that mean in real terms? It means if your machine dies or you upgrade to a new computer you cannot take a copy of Office 2013 with you to new hardware. You will need to purchase another copy, which again will be tied to the machine it is installed upon forever.
I had a situation recently where my hard drive crashed. Luckily, I had backed up most of my important documents. However, I had to reinstall my Microsoft Office Suite disk.
(That disk allowed for 5 installs)
Also, with the new version, I would not be able to load the suite to both my laptop and PC.
With this new change, I would have had to plop down over $140+ to buy a whole new Office suite.
Microsoft is trying to convert users to its Microsoft Office 365 where you pay a monthly subscription fee.
Imagine a DVD, or DVD that only allowed that to be played on one device?
The article linked above has some nice alternative programs. Some of which are free.
You hear Republicans railing against regulation and consumer protection. This is why we need consumer protection.
I understand software piracy, but this goes to far.
