I picked up the New York Times this morning and started to gloss over Obama's immigration plan such as:
- Path to citizenship after 8 years
- After 8 years then they get in the back of the line of legal immigrants
- etc etc etc
This isnt a plan. What this is is pure unadulterated bullshit. 8 years? That sounds like a prison sentence rather then a path to citizenship.
There was once a time when there was an Ellis Island and large immigration centers which processed people in mass. Why can't we build such mass immigration centers today or at least double the staff at the INS so they have more people power to process all of the applications. If people are waiting years and years then obviously they are short staffed that maybe large regional immigration centers need to be built. Maybe there needs to be another "Ellis Island".
What do I know? I dont have any experience with immigration laws or the Immigration and Naturalization Service. However, I think if we picked 8 people at random wondering around the local grocery store and put them in a room they could come up with a better plan than this.
Quite obviously. Obama needs to go back to the drawing board. Maybe he needs to pull 8 random people from the grocery store and let them have at building decent reform because what he came up with isnt cutting it.
The main reason why we need to have immigration reform is really because of the economy. You have all these workers out there who are off the books working under the counter. Placing them on the books will increase tax revenue. It will increase demand for real estate and goods. 8 years is way too long and the government needs to come up with that "Sputnik moment" to re-construct the current immigration system which isnt working.
We need to send a message to Obama that we need a better plan right now. Im not afraid to voice my opinion against Obama's proposals especially when they hurt the people who gave him a second term. We have to unite together and send a message that this isnt a plan...this isnt what immigration reform looks like.
