Around Christmas there was this whole Secret Santa thing going on here. Folks put their names on a list and others pitched in to get them a gift from the Kos Katalogue. It was really fun being able to pitch in a small amount to get someone a great large ticket gift for the holiday. Somehow my name got on the list (I couldn’t tell you how because it happened more than 10 minutes ago.)

Mine was indeed a large ticket item from Wings and I figured I would pay for most of it but that was ok, his stuff is so great.

Well someone or a bunch of someones did pay for my gift. That just baffled me. I come from the school of “I’m not good enough, I’m not smart enough and gosh darn it no one likes me”. I preempt that by presenting with an “I hate everyone and everything” attitude.

And yet a bunch of strangers bought me a fabulous gift – jeez, now I have to change my whole world view.

People often say that they came to DKos for the politics and stayed for the community but to me they are one and the same thing. One of the definitions of politics in Webster’s is “the total complex of relations between people living in society”.

So I am here for the politics. I love when Electablog keeps me updated on my home state MI. I love how Friendly Stranger presents the I/P news. I even like a good pie fight (I have gotten some good recipes that way).

I am also learning a lot about the inherent goodness of people, their beauty and kindness. That’s really the politics of life. Thank you all!

(This is the beautiful bracelet I recieved a few days ago.)

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.
