Cookie, our last guinea pig, crossed over about 11 pm last night. The vet assisted us in our decision. He had a kidney/bladder/urethra stone, starting kidney failure, and starting pneumonia.
The vet was noting that Cookie was sliding down hill fast. Most guinea pigs when they hit that stage they don't survive surgery. That was our only option was surgery.
Cost wasn't a factor to me. He was in lots of pain, the vet managed to push the stone back into the bladder, but it could get lodged back in at any time.
Sorry to ramble...
Our 16 yr old daughter, who was his best friend after Fred died last December. We were in the vet's office making the finial decision.
My partner and I were doing a lot of the feeding along with our 12 yr, who would drop food at every squeak/begging he did. We're all kind of torn up inside. He was a young pig, we got him in 2009 to be a companion to Fred after Snowball died.
His burial was this morning in our back yard, next to Snowball and Fred.
I am just pulling into my shell...
