With the first day of the Insane 16 already
underway we've got another big battle, this time from the GOP Establishment Region pitting #6 Paul Ryan against #10 Wayne LaPierre.
Ryan has had a solid tournament, taking down Newt Gingrich in the first round and Scott Walker in the second. If Mitt Romney had survived past the early rounds, this is where they would have met, but the lower seeds have had a great tournament all around in the bottom half of brackets—testimony to the depth of the GOP's whackadoodle bench. So instead of Romney, Ryan faces Wayne LaPierre, who beat Mitch McConnell in the first round and Eric Cantor in the second. It'll be interesting to see who wins: Both guys have crazy ideas, but Ryan tries to make them sound reasonable while LaPierre makes no such effort. Who makes a better poster-child of GOP insanity? You'll decide.
The winner of this matchup will join the winner of #1 Marco Rubio vs. #4 Dick Cheney in the Crazy 8. You can vote on (and track results of) all the Insane 16 matchups here.
As with previous rounds, you're voting for whomever you believe makes for a better poster-child for Republican craziness. That doesn't necessarily need to mean you're voting for the craziest person, because you might also consider their prominence and influence as well as their association with the GOP. It's entirely up to you.
Voting ends Saturday at 8:30 AM ET, after which we'll announce the winners and kick off the Crazy 8, from which will emerge the Freakshow Four.
