The Facts on Chained CPI
Will you be having Meow mix or Little Friskies? Do you prefer Fat or non fat? Maybe the better question should be, " Granny do you prefer THC or MSG with that crappy meal"? May I suggest the THC as you will be mellow and happy to get whatever you can. ( although the munchies may cause a problem with your appetite and lack of funds).
This is the kind of question some may think silly but if this chained CPI happens, then the seniors , disabled, veterans and poorest among us will be hard pressed to even buy the catfood. I am sick of this outrageous notion that President Obama has even entertained the thought of tinkering with the lockbox. Social Security is not an entitlement. We worked for it. We paid into it. We want our benefits and no fat cats on Wall Street needs to be taking bread out of my family's mouth. Don't piss on me and tell me it's raining. I am not in a bubble. I know when I am getting shafted.
Veterans are struggling every single day with backlogs, long waits for mental health treatment, compensation, and that is not even counting adjusting to life after war which most never makes a full recovery.
The disabled do not need more worry in their lives of struggles in many ways the abled can not possibly relate to. The elderly and seniors have been cutting their prescriptions in half for years as the rich got richer. The DOD is still paying private contractors billions of dollars for an illegal war with deceptive taxpayer dollars. The answer from the Power players who took us into wars that were not paid for? Let Social Security beneficiaries pay for it. This is crazy. Social Security has nothing to do with the deficit.
There are so many twists in this snake that I could rant for hours about not just the political wrong in all of this Social Security on the table but the moral integrity of promises made and promises broken 8 weeks out from the 2012 election. It is political suicide and it is morally, just evil. I wrote a diary last week about Total and permanent veteran dependents getting screwed already at age 65 . Here is the link to that diary.

One of the finest conversations and people I have ever met was with Senator Harkin.
Tom is a fine human being and a veteran who does care about veterans. He cared about my little organziation just on the brink now of collapsing but he cared when we first started up. He didn't care about the fact we were not a National organization but a local org and that we helped veterans. He wrote me letters, emails and encouraged me when it first started and to keep my spirits up. He talked to me about his service. He was a pilot in Vietnan. We talked as he talked to me in length about the Americans with Disabilities Act. We were a guest in Washington DC in 2000 and I attended a private party and had the fortunate expierence of getting to know Sen. Harkin and his wonderful efforts to hlep the disabled and his fellow veterans.
"> STAND WITH THIS SENATOR AGAINST THIS OUTRAGE !
Tom Harkin stands against this Chained CPI.. If I didn't know anything else, I know I would stand with Tom Harkin because unlike so many of the political elite in DC, I know he cares. I know this from personal conversations and not from some sound byte.
This is real....no political game.....
This is for real people. We are already facing dire times. We, on fixed incomes are not on the golf course. Millions are raising grandchildren or providing roofs for our uemployed grown children, or sandwiched with elderly parents, or all three. We are already stretched to the max with medical costs, the high price of aging or disability, ( I mean having to contract out things like mowing yards or things we were once able to do). We are tired and Social Security and VA benefits are all some of us have. It is damn hard, near impossible to take care of an elderly parent, grandchildren that are your children now, and adult unemployed or barely employed grown kids on a fixed income of a disabled veteran with a disability check and social security. That is it !!!
This is before the rich wanted that little bit of living we provide for our families. It is damn hard to live in multi family dwellings and not EVEN making it from check to check. This country had no problem sending men and women off to wars to become mamed, sick, unemployable and then say, " You will continue to fight but it will be for for your right to live with dignity". THE GRAND BARGAIN is code for SCREW THE NEW DEAL.
Here are some links to see this isn't just a few radical hippies or Debbie Downers..This is real scrutiny and REAL commentary on the Stupid of all this.

PORT WASHINGTON, N.Y. (MarketWatch) — Along with the Republicans and the Federal Reserve, you may be able to add President Obama to the list of those who don’t give a hoot about seniors.
In his new budget, the president appears to be heading in the same direction. He wants to reduce Social Security benefits at a time when, if anything, seniors need an increase.
.
This gambit is misguided, unfair and may also be illegal. It makes it seem that the president either doesn’t know or doesn’t care about the needs of our senior citizens
http://abcnews.go.com/...
If I wanted to play these kind of games to please Wall Street, I would have voted for the Rich man who wanted me to actually believe that Social Security is an entitlement.
I would not have called, voted for and blocked people from my life who said the man I was voting for was going to ruin this country.
If the president thinks my life is a chess game, I got one thing to say......It isn't and you suck at playing chess when you are using the poor and sacraficed as pawns to protect your Queen on the board of life.
HELL NO !!! I stand with Sen. Sanders and Senator Harkin and with anyone else willing to protect us from an insane decision to put Social Security on the table.
YOU WON'T HANG us out to dry after soaking us in austerity.
Snip from The Nation
http://www.thenation.com/...
In fact, there is an even bigger lie concealed by the fiscal scolds and ignored by witless media, too. Again and again, self-righteous critics have portrayed Social Security as the profligate monster borrowing from the Treasury and sucking the life out of federal government. Guess what? It's the other way around. The federal government borrows from Social Security. The Treasury has been borrowing from the Social Security Trust Fund for 30 years, and the debt to Social Security beneficiaries now totals nearly $3 trillion. The day is approaching when that money will be needed for its original purpose: paying Social Security benefits to the working people who contributed to the fund.
That is the real crisis that makes the financial barons and their media collaborators so anxious to cut Social Security benefits. They would like to get out of repaying the debt—that is, giving the money back to the people who earned it. The only way to do this is cut the benefits—over and over again. Count on it. If the president and Congress succeed in this malicious scheme, they will come back again and again to cut more and more. If the politicians join this sordid conspiracy, voters should come after them with pitchforks and torches.
For you Mr. President !!!!! Just for you !!!!!

Well, I don't know why I came here, tonight
I've got the feeling that something ain't right
I'm so scared in case I fall off my chair
And I'm wondering how I'll get down the stairs
Clowns to the left of me
Jokers to the right
Here I am
Stuck in the middle with you
Yes, I'm stuck in the middle with you
And I'm wondering what it is I should do
It's so hard to keep this smile from my face
Losing control, yeah, I'm all over the place
Clowns to the left of me
Jokers to the right
Here I am
Stuck in the middle with you
Well, you started out with nothing
And you're proud that you're a self-made man
And your friends all come calling
Slap you on the back and say
Please...
Please...
Trying to make some sense of it all
But I can see it makes no sense at all
Is it cool to go to sleep on the floor
'Cause I don't think that I can take anymore
Clowns to the left of me
Jokers to the right
Here I am
Stuck in the middle with you
Well, you started out with nothing
And you're proud that you're a self-made man
And your family all come calling
Slap you on the back and say
Please...
Please...
Well, I don't know why I came here, tonight
I've got the feeling that something ain't right
I'm so scared in case I fall off my chair
And I'm wondering how I'll get down the stairs
Clowns to the left of me
Jokers to the right
Here I am
Stuck in the middle with you
Yes, I'm stuck in the middle with you
Stuck in the middle with you
Here I am
Stuck in the middle with you
