What makes this huge news in Tennessee is that this is the business of the Haslam family, the family of our current governor, Bill Haslam. The current CEO is his brother, Jimmy Haslam.
There is very little information available right now:
Agents from the FBI and Knoxville Police Officers are at Pilot Flying J Headquarters off Lonas Drive in West Knoxville.
Bill Killian, U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Tennessee, said the action is part of an ongoing federal investigation of Pilot Flying J. Killian declined to comment further.
Marshal Stone, chief division counsel with the FBI Knoxville office, told Knoxville TV station WBIR that the action involved both the FBI and the IRS.
David Smith, a Haslam spokesman, said the governor had been informed of it and referred other questions to Cynthia Moxley, Pilot's spokeswoman.
“The FBI secured our headquarters today and informed us they are investigating Pilot Flying J,” Pilot CEO Jimmy Haslam said in an email statement to the Knoxville News-Sentinel this afternoon
Local news from Knoxville,
WBIR is including and IRS angle in the investigation.
This is also being reported by sports outlets like NBC Sports because Jimmy Haslam owns the Cleveland Browns.
