You can't just wish some things away.
I'm somewhat at a loss to understand why the President's firing of the head of the IRS (Steven Miller) is nowhere to be found on the rec list. We've had days of rec list diaries (& in their comments) telling us there was nothing to see here with this story, & that we should all just move along. Non-issue....
President Obama missed that meme. Indeed, he disagrees with it. Instead of moving along, he decided to "fire" (parse it if you will) the acting head of the IRS.
Our President is angry about it
"The misconduct that it uncovered is inexcusable. It's inexcusable, and Americans are right to be angry about it and I am angry about it," the president said in a brief prepared statement. "I will not tolerate this kind of behavior in any agency—but especially in the IRS, given the power that it has and the reach that it has into all of our lives."
(emphasis added my myself)
First, we’re going to hold the responsible parties accountable. Yesterday, I directed Secretary Lew to follow up on the IG audit to see how this happened and who is responsible, and to make sure that we understand all the facts. Today, Secretary Lew took the first step by requesting and accepting the resignation of the acting commissioner of the IRS, because given the controversy surrounding this audit, it’s important to institute new leadership that can help restore confidence going forward.
The above paragraph reminds me of
something I read here 3 days ago, but was buried since under an avalanche of counter protest.
Condescending diary after diary hit the rec list in the past few days exclaiming that this was a "fake" scandal & that by paying attn to it we were allowing ourselves to be "colonized"...or that we were actually calling for "impeachment." Many fingers seemed to be placed firmly in ears.
I hope he comes out and says: "We looked into(8+ / 0-)
it. It's all bullshit. The IRS was doing its job and some people didn't like it. Stop falling for this crap."
Too many proclaimed that if we on this site would just STFU it would all just go away. By talking about it progressives would just be "doing the repukes" work for them. yeah, sure.
MB nailed it 3 days ago, (emphasis added by myself)
This time, however, many Democrats, including some who have not heretofore been critics of the administration, will surely be asking some tough questions of their own. As well they should. What's intolerable when done under a Republican administration is not just as intolerable under a Democratic administration. It's worse. We have a right to expect better behavior. We have plenty of past and recent examples to the contrary and this cannot be allowed to be written off as mere partisanship on the part of Republicans. They will certainly use it to partisan advantage. But that doesn't make it a non-issue.
The best that can come out of both these scandals are quick-and-thorough, get-to-the-bottom-of-it probes into what happened, why it happened and who made it happen. Followed by some personnel departures no matter how high they reach.
(Sounds kind of like what is actually happening now 3 days later.)
Heh, to which many responded below his post in this manner...
I will side with IRS until I see more(50+ / 0-)
thorough investigation and reporting.
Meh, I'll take MB's "investigation and reporting" over that of the IRS, or of just waiting for other more agreeable reporting, any
pinche time.
Luckily, this time the President seems to be following MB's advice (so far).
