Congress is investigating the IRS. Who is investigating Congress?

Apple dodges taxes in the billions of dollars. Exploiting the intentionally arcane tax laws, Apple hides money all over the world, paying little or no taxes in the United States - or anywhere else, for that matter. Shades of Mitt Romney, times 1000.

This is no accident. Congress, the best that money can buy, has created a system that allows the biggest and richest people, and their organizations (funds, corporations, foundations, etc. etc.) to avoid paying their fair share of taxes, while the rest of us make up the difference from our comparatively puny wages, salaries, savings and tiny investments. If the IRS was a bit overzealous in its duty to insure that every crackpot, secret political money organization doesn't get tax exempt status, more power to them.

Are so many Americans so stupid, or brainwashed, that they are actually incensed over bureaucratic ham-handedness in the interpretation of official duties, while accepting of the terrible fiscal injustice inherit in the tax code? If so, we deserve to be fleeced by the rich and richer.

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.

Over and over again the Courts have said that there is nothing sinister in so arranging affairs as to keep taxes as low as possible. Everyone does it, rich and poor alike and all do right, for nobody owes any public duty to pay more than the law demands."

Cpqemp, helfenburg, OooSillyMe investigation should be launched immediately to determine exactly what it is these bozos do to earn the $174,000.00 a year they rake in.

They stink up the joint & accomplish nothing as far as I can see.  Louie Gohmert is a prime example.  I'm surprised the birdbrain has figured out how to walk  upright without his knuckles dragging on the ground.  And, don't even get me started on James Inhofe.

    God.....give me strength!

has already been passed. All that remains is to remove them in the next election. In the last three elections 212 members of the House were freshmen. The change in personnel obviously did not change the behavior of those that were left. Some people keep parrots. Some people keep Congress critters for their amusement.

So, here's the Dufus Brigade in all its glory, along with who voted nay on the Violence Against Women Act.

fools.  Mark Twain described it perfectly in Huckleberry Finn with the two characters known as the Duke and the Dauphin.  They were grifters. Con men.

In the last couple of years I made it a habit of reading the Congressional Record.  This page at the Library of Congress website has the daily issues. Clicking on the pdf under "Entire Issue" opens a pdf of about 125 - 150 pages.  Inside is a transcript of the days proceedings in the House and Senate.

I don't read the whole thing straight through. I usually have something I want to see for that day.  Typically, I'll right click on the issue, click "Find," and input a search term.  If it appears multiple times I advance through the copy and read each part.  It's informative when you get used to it.  It has much more value than any cable or network newsmedia.  In fact, you'll probably wonder why you never hear a word about what you read.  Now and then if the proceedings can be adapted to the reality show format of the newsmedia they'll cover something.  But much is omitted.

That's why you feel Congress needs a babysitter.  I think that would be the job of a functioning free press.  That's another rant.

There is no existence without doubt.

    •  Let's hear the rant about the free press and what (0+ / 0-)

we don't hear from them.  YOu know, in this day and age when media outlets are wringing their hands and bemoaning their fates, which look bleak, you would think that at least one of them would think of trying something different - instead of producing the same news that a person can access at literally thousands of other outlets, try giving us something based on the House and Senate proceedings, as you suggest, or something else, but something real and informative and different than what every other outlet offers.

The elevation of appearance over substance, of celebrity over character, of short term gains over lasting achievement displays a poverty of ambition. It distracts you from what's truly important. - Barack Obama
