... when I saw the press release which had been released on Sunday by U.S. Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (R-FL27), Chairman of the Middle East and North Africa Subcommittee, about the congressional delegation she had led to the UAE and Afghanistan.
But then I realized that that was a stupid question.
This is from her May 26, 2013 press release.
Ros-Lehtinen Leads Bipartisan Congressional Delegation to UAE and Afghanistan
The UAE continues to be one of our strongest and important allies in the Middle East. Even with tensions high in the region, the UAE remains a steadfast U.S. partner that plays an important role to combat terrorism, promotes democratic values, and protects our national security.
Since she's the Chairman of the Middle East and North Africa Subcommittee you would think that she would know that the UAE is a federation of seven emirates, that each of them is governed by a hereditary emir, that only 20 of the 40 members of the UAE's powerless legislature are elected, and that the emirs decide who can vote.
And that these are not democratic values.
