It is easy to find the other things I've written on this topic (here, here, and here).
As I said before we keep thinking things are getting better and alas they are not. We like to think she is getting better now but to be bleak, I am not so sure. The tube in her nose is out. She has started for the first time to have physical therapy people working with her today and she walked, or as my dad joked (we have a sense of humor even in terrible times) she kind of shuffled around the room.
As I look back on all that has happened I have two HUGE issues.
The first is they treated her for health issues they didn't know were causing the problems. Just assumed. Maybe an educated "guess" but still a "guess." I've joked it was something out of the House TV show. They treat for something, they were wrong, it makes her health worse, and then they repeat this process. Ugh.
But my bigger issue and some more details below the fold.
My mother's problem is she is bleeding from an area of our bowels where she had to have a few feet remove. This happened only after she had a growth removed from her lower colon. Not cancer. Well two weeks later things went downhill. They have now had to use a scope through her anus and had the area clipped off three times now.
Now I totally get their point. That a fourth surgery on a 78 year old women that is obese is not a good idea. But they keep saying each time they clip it off that they couldn't see this area or that area and had to go back in.
I am like I get the risk of surgery, but wouldn't it be a better idea just to cut her open, get at the area, and FIX it? Look I am not a doctor. Not even close. But each time she comes back from getting clips she isn't stronger.
I mean how many more times will they try these clamps and they not work before they get maybe another course of action is required?
But I have to admit she has been in the ICU for two weeks today and this is the first day I didn't get what I'd call "bad" news of some kind. That is something.
