Sooo, paying off the debt is clearly a bipartisan win, right? Paying off the debt entirely would be a good thing.
Unlimited campaign contributions aren't quite as scary as they were before the Romney zeppelin crash of '47. Some things just will not fly.
What if unlimited contributions above say, $1000, had a debt-busting 20% contribution provision to directly pay off the national debt? It is clearly a failure of the political system that we have so much debt, so lets take the money back before Congress doesn't spend it wisely.
I'm not saying we shouldn't repeal Citizen's United, and fix the nutty PAC rules. Heck, I'd like to see public funding for all elections, but even I recognize some gradient to my fantasies.
Directly repayment of debt by those hoping to influence the political landscape by large degree may be our best chance to salvage viability from our screwed up two party system. It pays the debt without raising taxes on anyone, how slick can it get?
Like many of my best schemes, the only major flaw is getting it made into law.
