Seriously, what do they put in the waters down in Oklahoma? We're used to the embarassing conduct of James Inhofe and Tom Coburn and now there's a new batshit lunatic named Jim Bridenstine clamoring for our attention. A freshman who gained notice by knocking out five-term GOP Rep. John Sullivan in a major primary upset last year, Bridenstine has wasted no time making a spectacle of himself, especially on the floor of the House. Witness this speech from last month where the former Eagle Scout got all hot and bothered about the notion of the Boy Scouts allowing those icky gays into their ranks:
BRIDENSTINE: I rise today as an Eagle Scout and one who has a stake in the future of our Scouting programs. Some of us in America still believe in the concept of sexual morality, that sex is intended for one man and one woman within the institution of marriage. Organizations that hold this philosophy and promote it among our youth should be commended, or at least you would think, tolerated. Unfortunately, the intolerant Left bullies and browbeats private organizations like the Boy Scouts into accepting their philosophy. Notice they didn’t start their own organization. They went after the Boy Scouts of America.
The Left’s agenda is not about tolerance, and it’s not about diversity of thought. It’s about presenting a worldview of relativism, where there is no right and wrong. Then using the full force of the government to silence opposition and reshape organizations like the Boy Scouts into instruments for social change.
To my friends on the Left, this is not tolerance. but here’s the good news about true tolerance. The most tolerant one of all has the ability to redeem us all.
Charming. And before that, there was
the time in March when he called Obamacare, "the biggest affront to liberty in my lifetime."
Yet those moments have nothing compared to the deranged rant Bridenstine unleashed on the House floor on Monday. What did he say? Per TPM:
Oklahoma Rep. Jim Bridenstine (R) took to the House floor on Monday with a speech blasting President Barack Obama as a vengeful liar who is "not fit to lead."
Vice President Joe Biden is also not a viable alternative, Bridestine laments, and is "even more embarrassing" than the president.
"Mr. Speaker, the President’s dishonesty, incompetence, vengefulness and lack of moral compass lead many to suggest that he is not fit to lead," Bridenstine said. "The only problem is that his vice president is equally unfit and even more embarrassing."
Bridenstine listed Obama's "lie" about the Benghazi attacks, the "spying on a Fox News journalist and his family," and the IRS targetting scandal as evidence of the president's leadership incompetence.
Remember,
this was on the House floor. Did none of his fellow Republicans realize it might be a good idea to get him to quiet down? Especially when GOP leaders are
trying to get their guys to tone the rhetoric down? (Not that they're having much success, especially given
Darrel Issa's temper tantrum this weekend.)
But there was no stopping Bridenstine. Yesterday, he went on the radio show of the Whiny Little Teabag Troll himself, Mark Levin, and further lodged his feet in his mouth:
Bridestine compared his tirade to Patrick Henry’s famous speech “give me liberty or give me death,” in which the 18th century politician convinced the Virginia House of Burgesses to pass a resolution in support of America’s Revolution against Great Britain.
“We’re at a crossroads at our country,” Bridestine told Levine. “We’ve got to make a decision. Do we want liberty or do we want tyranny?”
Bridenstine, if you visited at night by the vengeful, howling spirit of Patrick Henry for smearing his good name, don't act surprised.
But fear not! We can expect more stupidity from this guy in the future!
The fist-term congressman said he will continue criticizing the president and will soon take issue with “how the president talk about our military.” “He never once talks about what they have accomplished” in Iraq and Afghanistan, Bridestine complained
.
I'm sure it will be eye-catching. After all, when you hail from the same state as Inhofe and Coburn, you have to work extra-hard at the craziness to keep up.
