There won't be many right wingers that read this here, but I will put it out here anyway.
Dear Right-Wing Holier-Than-The-Rest-Of-Us Homophobes and Forced-Birthers,
What is it about "Gay Marriage" that you do not like?
It's because it sanctions "Gay Sex" isn't it, and that, in your mindset, is an abomination.
So let's suppose that you had your way on gay marriage and we adopted a constitutional amendment defining marriage as between one man and one woman: Would that stop gay sex from happening?
Of course it wouldn't.
So if your real goal is to eliminate gay sex, then what you really need to do is change the hearts and minds of every single gay person. Let me remind you that you do have the right to free speech. So let's see billboards with quotes from St. Paul, let's see ads on television spouting your homophobic points of view. Let's see how much stupid science you can invent that proves how bad homosexual relations are to the health and well being of all of us. Here's one for you: Prove that homosexuality causes global warming. I look forward to seeing you waste your money on those efforts.
The truth is that you are lazy. Up until this point, you have relied on the laws of the land to prohibit the marriages. Laws used to prohibit the behavior itself in many states, but that really smacks everyone in the face as an invasion of the government into our bedrooms, and that isn't acceptable to anyone. You want the state to do that which you know in your hearts neither you nor Jesus can do.
And the same is true regarding abortion. A national law prohibiting abortion would not stop abortions from happening, but once again you want to use the force of the government to impose your religious beliefs on the rest of us.
I have seen and I applaud the billboards extolling the right-to-life point of view. That's fine, because through that you are doing exactly what you need to do given your simplistic mindset. No doubt there will be stories of girls who carried their fetuses to term because of those billboards. Bully for you, but remember: We have the right to put up signs too.
So get to work. Open up your wallets. You've got a lot of minds to shape.
But above all: PLEASE STOP INSISTING THAT THE GOVERNMENT IMPOSE YOUR RELIGION ON THE REST OF US.
