Still around
I forget, is this guy running for anything yet, or is he still doing the Sarah Palin
"I was somebody, once" routine?
Count former Rep. Allen West (R-Fla.) out of the list of Republicans supporting Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-N.Y.), and her bill to remove military sexual assault cases from the chain of command.
One day after Sens. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) and Rand Paul (R-Ky.) backed the sweeping change, West railed against the idea on Wednesday, telling the Weekly Standard that it was "slap in the face to those who have served in the military."
To Allen West, everything is a "slap in the face" to the military. Having women in combat roles at all was a slap in the face to the military. Singing the national anthem wrong is a slap in the face to the military. Questioning why he was drummed out of the military is a slap in the face to the military. The guy lives and breathes military face-slapping.
I'm not sure I get the logic of "let the military continue to handle it even though they've screwed it up to the point of national scandal." Why is there an ideological divide on this one? Wait—on second thought, I don't want to know. Forget I said anything.
