I wonder where the public got that idea...
According to
the latest NBC-Wall Street Journal poll, the American public isn't buying the GOP nonsense about how their only concern with immigration reform is so-called "border security":
When you hear Republicans say that immigration reform must wait until the border is secure, do you think that is a legitimate concern that needs to be addressed first before immigration reform can take place, or they are using that as an excuse to block action on immigration reform?
Legitimate concern: 36
Excuse to block reform: 59
And these numbers came before Steve King's "cantaloupe calves"
comment became widely publicized, so it's hard to imagine them getting better for Republicans unless Republicans decide to stop blocking immigration reform.
Meanwhile, in related news, Congress now is at less popular than it has ever been in NBC-WSJ survey:
In general, do you approve or disapprove of the job that Congress is doing?
Approve: 12
Disapprove: 83
Nearly three years after Republicans recaptured the House, those are some pretty bad numbers. Unfortunately, they aren't translating into a tidal wave of momentum for Democrats, at least according to the poll: The two parties are tied at 44 in the generic ballot. President Obama's approval rating stands at 45 approve, 50 disapprove, which while better than Congress, is close to his all time low of 44-51 in November, 2011.
