The right-wing cries over and over about the government "taking away their religious rights" (school prayer, etc.), but I guess it never occurs to them that they're taking away the religious rights of lots of other people.
Abortion, for example. I'm a Christian, but I take a scientific view of abortion. Yes, life begins at conception. That's pretty obvious. But to me, that's not the issue. The issue is: when does the fetus actually become a person? The answer to that, in my opinion, is when it's viable. Until then, the rights of the woman are trump. So, when the right-wingnuts pass all these anti-abortion laws, they're trampling on the religious rights of me and every other person who takes a scientific view instead of a fundamentalist view.
Gay marriage is the same. If it's against your religion, don't do it. But don't trample on the religious rights of less bigoted people by trying to pass laws forcing the rest of the country into your narrow and narrow-minded mold.
So, do me a favor, KOS readers. Each and every time you read a Letter to the Editor or read of a legislator espousing restrictive marriage and/or abortion laws, write back and tell them that they're trampling on YOUR religious freedoms. Maybe that will get through to them.
