Yesterday was quite a long day, but it was also productive! I was looking at my dairy list and saw that most of them were a bit...sad-sack...so I thought I'd write up some happiness!
After all, what better way to spend a rainy, cold July morning?
Yesterday I woke up at 0600, rather fully awake. Making the best of it, I cleaned the master bath a final time (it's been a fix-it project of mine), and finally got to take a shower without having to leave the room I'm using! Ah, bliss.
Then I made (what else) Irish Breakfast tea and had a piece of pie for breakfast (Pùka got kibble). Just for all of you, Daily Kos.
Two loads of laundry; a swept kitchen and vacuumed living room; washed, dried, & put away dishes; a straightened bedroom; and C&J read and commented on, and mayim is almost here and it's time to head downstairs! I got Pùka in his harness and mayim was greeted with enthusiastic waggy-butt.
The plan is to get me to the city General Assistance (GA) office and to get my mail, and hopefully get back before the lunch that commonmass planned. I wish I'd known about the lunch before making the GA run plans, but Pùka's food supply was low... /sigh Sometimes you just have to choose responsibility over fun.
Mayim drives me to the GA office, and in we go. I end up being the last one called, but my interviewer is sweet, and remembers my hearing impairment. And all goes smoothly! I get my non-food items voucher, I am eligible for rent assistance (and get the info for that), and they will take care of any prescriptions that MedAccess doesn't! They are even willing to cover an OTC that they usually don't (Benedryl), as long as my doctor sends them a note. But unlike the small-town GA, they couldn't take care of Pùka's food, even though he's classed as durable medical equipment. Uh-oh. >.>
At the car, mayim got a puckish smile as she put her purse in the back, and handed me a plastic shopping bag. It was full of beautiful, squishy wool and alpaca yarn, including three skeins of sock yarn (I'm on a sock-making kick).
But it was already a good bit past noon, almost 1300. We'd been at GA for a long time, much of it waiting (they do not do appointments). We'd missed the lunch.
But off to get my mail! On the way, mayim said she'd get Pùka some food while she picked up her cats some treats. His cute face is happy!
And in my mail was more good news. The divorce paperwork was served. The official word that my SSI case has been assigned was there (with more paperwork to fill out, naturally)! And OMB, I have FreeCare now, and it's backdated (this means that my angel of a doctor now gets paid to see me)!
Mayim declared that she was hungry, and so we had Olive Garden before hitting the pet shop (where yes, they had the kettehs' absolute favorite treats in stock). And Pùka has tasty food for the next few months.
I even got home in time to meet commonmass' company, if only for a few minutes. And that's another thing to be hugely grateful for, that I have a place to stay through the end of August. Thank you, commonmass!
