A real charmer, this one.

The Republican who's running against Newark, N.J. Mayor Cory Booker (D) in New Jersey's special Senate election said Tuesday that speculation surrounding his opponent's sexual orientation is "kind of weird."

In an interview with Newsmax, businessman Steve Lonegan made a point to trumpet his masculinity when he was asked about speculation that Booker is gay. The popular mayor — an overwhelming favorite to win the special election — told The Washington Post that he has no problem if people think he's gay.

"It's kind of weird. As a guy, I personally like being a guy," Lonegan said. "I don't know if you saw the stories last year. They've been out for quite a bit about how he likes to go out at three o'clock in the morning for a manicure and a pedicure."

Lonegan then brought up nail care again.

"I don't like going out in the middle of the night, or any time of the day, for a manicure and pedicure," Lonegan said. "It was described as his peculiar fetish . . .I have a more peculiar fetish. I like a good Scotch and a cigar. That's my fetish but we'll just compare the two."

It's not a very long article, but it does have a photo of Lonegan that displays him in all his masculine, he-man glory.

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.

As kos stated recently, the use of cursewords can be fine in the body of a diary, depending upon context.  But such a use in a title may trigger filters which disable the ability of whomever's system uses that filter from seeing DK at all.

sysadmin considers to be a "curse". You wouldn't want to have access to DailyKos restricted due to some "curse", would you? For instance, When I worked for the NYC BOE in the early 2000's, access to the NY Times was restricted due to the adult content of the Times. Yea, it can get that crazy.

I didn't get to see your diary until after you had changed your title, yet I immediately read it. Not having "asshole" in the title had absolutely no effect on my level of interest.

Of course, you could use alternate spellings of "asshole" such as "a$$hole" or "a-hole" that would never get trapped by anyone's "curse" filter...

I am not now, nor have I ever been, a member of the Republican Party.

there has to be some insecurity about who he is about himself.  Cory Booker is secure in himself and doesn't need to beat this chest.  LOL.

  •  no he thinks gay men are not men (0+ / 0-)

I think the guy really thinks gay guys are less than men. I think Booker was just screwing around with some reporter because if he was gay I am sure he would say so.

  •  On a totally shallow note (0+ / 0-)

every time I see Steve Lonegan his hair is a different color. In his latest commercial it is orange. Hair dye - OK, mani/ pedi - not OK.

He is vile.  It was all I could do to keep from throwing something at the TV when he was on Up last Saturday.
