Following the chemical weapons attack east of Damascus eight days ago the Turkish Government went into overdrive, blaming President al-Assad vehemently, backing the Western recognized Syrian opposition's (located in Istanbul) every statement, calling for Western intervention, stating that the UN wasn't important - Syria had to be struck no matter what happened in the UN Security Council, talking of organizing a 'coalition of the willing' on their own.
The people of Turkey, though, remained firmly against intervention in Syria.
Then about two (or three ?) days ago news began to emerge that the most important 'proof' that the US and some European Governments were basing their condemnations of al-Assad on was from Israeli intelligence.
And the very public, very loud, very uncompromising pronouncements of the leadership of the Turkish Government about intervention in Syria stopped, just plain stopped.
Is there another reason for this? Maybe, but tough talk in the US, Britain, France and several other countries continues.
Will they start up again in Turkey? Who knows.
