I feel stupid writing this, but since nobody else has taken it upon him- or herself, I guess it falls to me. It seems a week or two can't go by without someone posting about offensive language, and yet the community guidelines have one enshrined as their guiding principle-- don't be a dick.
Now, for the record, I don't have a problem with the association of the male genitalia with being a jerk, seeing as it's jerked so often, but in the interests of consistency, I thought I should point out that if I were to use the word "pussy" in a manner that connoted a person not having any guts, I would be HR'd into oblivion. So I write this not out of any sense of anger at the debasement of my best friend, but because someone needed to point out that men have feelings too, and gosh darn it, can't you see that your hatred of men is so institutionalized that you can't see it even when it's right in front of your face? Yeah, my jaw dropped too.
I could go on and on, but this is really mostly snark and tongue-in-cheek, but I thought the community should at least be consistent. If it's not okay to call someone a pussy, then it shouldn't be okay to call someone a dick. Okay, back to more Syria-s programming.
