Earl "Safe Seat" Blumenauer is waffling on this Syria war business.

Email him here or call him up at  (503) 231-2300, tell him no war in Syria.  I did.  That's all you've got to do.   Also call Ron Wyden at (503) 326-7525 and Senator Jeff Merkley at (503) 326-3386, and your own Congressman if you're not in Blumenauer's district.

I called the Senators too.  Don't be angry or upset -- the people who are answering the phone are just doing their jobs, and they probably agree with you.  Just say "I'm a constituent and I'd like to state my opposition to the Syrian war resoiution"  or something like that.  It'll take less than a minute but it makes a difference.

Democracy works -- but only if we make it work.

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.

I am really curious to see how they vote. It looks like deFazio is leaning no. Wyden is leaning no. Don't know about Merkley. Anyone hear about him?

Right now I am conflicted. I am SICK TO DEATH of these freaking wars. I am tired of Afghanistan, Iraq,  I am sick of these terrorist groups in the Middle East who want to do us harm.  If we don't ever see another soldier go to war it won't be too soon. BUT because of the way I feel, some in congress feels and millions of people out here is why Obama will not listen to me or anyone else when he sees a dangerous Dictator gassing his people. I am looking thru his lenses as president and I sense he is afraid that if we USA let this be the norm, you will start to see a cascade of other tyrants using this method of killing in the masses. That is what he is afraid of. "He sees ISRAEL being the next target because they will know the US won't protect them.

He has never listened to polls, news organizations, media or the uninformed voter out here when he knows in his gut that he has to make the call that everyone will hate. He did it with Healthcare, He did it with the WallStreet BAILOUTS, GM Bailouts, Going into Libya to help the rebels with Khaddafi, Going into Eqypt to get Mubarack out. He did it with making the call to go after OSAMA BIN LADEN. That is who he is. He has always gone with his GUT and 90% of the time he was right.

He was about to strike syria without congressional approval and according to the constitution he has the power to do so seeing past president have done it.  SO I have no doubt that even if he doesn't hit syria now, because all eyes are on Assad, if he sees any more deaths by way of Chemical Weapons, he will order the strike.

I can't believe Barbara Boxer voted to put the resolution on the floor of the Senate.  I called her office and said if I wanted to vote for a Republican, I would have voted for Feinstein.

I asked the staffer which way the wind was blowing, and he wouldn't tell em, but I'm pretty sure I know.

I should probably call, too. Rep. Kurt Schroeder was on NPR this morning, sounding like a 'No'   Rep. Bonamici was also on the radio, waffling, just 'waiting for more information'.  I'm hopeful hat Earl will come out against any action.  It certainly would reflect his district.
Really, no good can come of a strike on Syria, and that's what I'm telling my representatives.

so said whoever answered at Earl's Portland office. So far today not one call in support of going to war.

Those who fought the war in Afghanistan won it. Get them out of Afghanistan NOW . . . It's long past time. The time has come to repair this country and care for its' veterans.

I suspect the whole thing is kabuki, but will be pleased if I am wrong and enough no votes accrue.

How is Bonamici leaning, anyone know? Knowing her, she would vote for it.
