SEIU President Mary Kay Henry
With some unions increasingly concerned about how some provisions in the Affordable Care Act will affect their members, SEIU is beginning a new push to
support and promote Obamacare's benefits:
SEIU members will participate in Obamacare outreach in communities in 14 states, including door-to-door campaigns, events in the workplace and community education events with partner groups. SEIU members have promoted the law at a number of events around the country already over the summer.
“This law is already transforming the lives of working Americans,” [SEIU President Mary Kay] Henry said, announcing the new push Tuesday at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh. “It is freeing working men and women from the fear of medical bankruptcy, from the fear of pre-existing conditions. It is freeing them to pursue the work they are called to do, to pursue the lives they want to lead and the dreams they hope to achieve.”
Since many SEIU members work in health care and home care, having them educated on the law and motivated to talk about it potentially creates a major pool of trusted, knowledgeable sources on the law; the union also represents many workers who should be benefiting from Obamacare themselves, and now should have the information and support to do so.
