A man is charged with murder.
The police, warrant in hand, come to take the man into custody.
The man disappears into a house, takes a hostage, and threatens to shoot the hostage unless the police drop the murder charge.
Then, while the media cameras roll, the hostage-taker, who is charged with violating a law of the land, says:
"If I have to kill this hostage, it will be the cops' fault for not compromising."
Is this the new definition of "compromise"?
