In the bowels of a Washington Post shutdown story by Dana Milbank is an interesting exchange from the House Rules Committee between Rep. Rob Bishop (R-Utah) and Rep. Louise Slaughter (D-NY).
“Not since my children were 3 or 4 years old have I seen such obstinate inability to accept the facts,” declared Rep. Louise Slaughter (N.Y.), the panel’s ranking Democrat.http://www.washingtonpost.com/...
“A tiny and irresponsible faction is holding things up,” argued Rep. Rob Bishop (R-Utah). “The tiny and irresponsible faction called Harry Reid.”
“Will the gentleman yield?” Slaughter asked Bishop at one point.
“When you get me a rhubarb pie, I will yield to you,” Bishop replied.
The story describes this exchange as "playful." I'd use the words disrespectful and sexist instead. A woman in Congress is still just some woman, so if she wants to be heard she can get you some pie first for the privilege?
